He and his best friend Louis Tomlinson have been with the magazine for years and theyâre unused to the level of online fame theyâve suddenly achieved.
Itâs easy for Harry to brush it off and ignore it (despite the teasing they get around the test kitchen) because Louis is happily married and has been for yearsâsince just before they met for the first time. Or, it was easy to brush it off, but at the beginning of the summer, just as theyâre leading up to the stress of planning the annual holiday issue, Louis and his husband decide to file for divorce.

stargazing // byler
pairing: will byers / mike wheeler & eleven / max mayfield
genre/warnings: mainly fluff! some soft angst
word count: 2502
summary:Â Where the party goes laser tagging for Will's 16th birthday and something happens that Mike will never forget aka that first kiss no one asked for.
n/a: post season 3 spoilers!! youâve been warned!
March 22nd, 1987
6:37 pm
âLucas, I donât even care if itâs Willâs birthday, so help me if you crash this car Iâm making Eleven open the gate and feed you to the Demodogs,â Dustin yelled from the front seat of the Hendersonâs van with the rest of the group piled in the back.
âEl canât do that anymore, genius.â Max had her hands clasped in Elevenâs lap.
âI have my license, Dustin. Stop freaking out,â Lucas groaned but still reduced his speed by a few miles.
âLie-sense?â Eleven looked to Max.
âCan we please stop arguing?â Mike hollered over the shouting from the back of the van, as well as Maxâs arm stretching across the console to crank the volume louder on the radio.
The party had decided to celebrate Will Byerâs sixteenth birthday in the most acceptable way possible: laser tag. The boys had outgrown Dungeons & Dragonsâfor the most partâbut that didnât stop them from pooling their money and planning on spending the night shooting each other with lasers and eating junk food like children; if anything it brought back the nostalgia of their middle school antics. The girls, on the other hand, didnât care for the game as muchâalthough Eleven had a difficult time wrapping her head around the entire idea of laser taggingâand they only went for the sake of Will and to spend time together.
The van slowly turned into the parking lot of the laser tag center and the chatter subsided.
âIs this what you wanted for your birthday?â Mike turned to Will. The other boy gave a shy smile and nodded. No matter how many weeks since theyâd announced their relationship to the party and their parentsâeven realizing it themselvesâWillâs affectionate gestures made Mikeâs heart beat a little faster, and his eyes linger on the boyâs face a little longer. He wasnât used to it yet, heâd never been in a real relationship. And his smile is driving me mad.
Will took Mikeâs hand and pulled him out of the last row of seats. As he jumped down from the van Mikeâs eyes flickered to his shorts. Only briefly. Were they always that..short? His heart leapt from his chest and he looked away, embarrassed, only to find their intertwined fingers. Will caught Mikeâs flustered expression.
âWhat?â he laughed and held up their hands, âDo you want me to stop?â
âNo!â Mike said, his face reddening. âUh, I mean, you donât have to. Sorry, itâs just all so new-â
âHey! Birthday boy! Get over here! You too, stupid,â Max called, pointing to the Polaroid camera in her hands while the rest of the group huddled around the front entrance for the photo.
Will smiled up at the dark haired boy and lead them over to the others. Max held the camera out in front of her as the rest of the group filed behind her, grinning. Will snaked his hand over Mikeâs shoulders and Eleven draped her arms around Max from behind.
âCheese!â
âMike, stop looking at Will, look at the camera,â Lucas snapped.
They all laughed as the light flashed.
âI took a few, so you all get a copy.â Max let the film develop for a few seconds and handed them each a photo. Mike took one and before he slid it into his pocket he showed it to Will, both staring at their cheeky grins. He already knew where heâd keep the photoâon the bulletin board in his bedroom, amongst ticket stubs, poems and sketches Will had done, and photos of the group when they were younger; right next to the many polaroids heâd snapped of Will. A collage of his hazel eyes. His beautiful, bright eyes.
âCute, Mikey,â Will whispered. Was he talking about the picture? Or him?
Will briefly touched Mikeâs shoulder then caught up with the rest of them, leaving him to stare at the smiles on the film, hiding his blush.
7:02 pm
âBoys against girls!â Â
âHow is that fair?â Eleven hissed, âItâs just the two of us.â
âWe can join a group thatâs already in there,â Will added.
âYouâre all such a headache. Letâs just split it into two groups. Me, Mike and Dustin on the red team. Will, Lucas and Eleven on blue. Deal?â Max counted off on her fingers.
Mike looked around the area as the others went with their teams and pulled on the correct vests and guns.
âNeed some help?â Max asked and went to her girlfriendâs side, she was holding the gear in her arms with a startled expression like she was handling a bomb. She giggled as Max guided the heavy vest over her head and adjusted it to her small waist. Eleven watched it all in wonder, then looked up at her face.
âPretty,â She said to Max and leaned in for a hug, their pink cheeks pressed close.
âSee Will? Itâs that simple,â Dustin whispered loudly and then chuckled while he watched the girls. Will punched Dustin in the arm and his eyes quickly met Mikeâs from across the neon lit waiting room.
Will was about to say something to him, not in words. In his stare. But the booming voice from the overhead speaker filled the room.
âGame begins in five,â The announcer said.
âAlright. Iâm going to go with my team. You remember the rules?â Max had her hands on Elevenâs shoulders, staring into her eyes.
Mike tried to make Will look again, but he was talking to Dustin as they headed into a different room. What was he going to say? What was so simple?
Eleven pointed to Maxâs glowing chest, âShoot the red vests. Hide. Be quiet.â
âSee? Youâll do great,â Max hugged her one last time and went over to the door, âBut, I am going to win.â
âWeâll see about that, Mad Max.â Lucas shouted and patted their shoulders companionably.
A buzzer sounded as the main doors opened; Mikeâs team rushed inside to station themselves around the maze. The arena was pitch black save for the neon lights across the carpeted floor and a constellation of yellow artificial stars on the ceiling. He knew that Willâs team was somewhere on the opposite side, lurking in the shadows. Waiting to stake the perfect moment to strike. The visual made Mikeâs heart race and he was drowning in worry.
He could only think of Will. Itâs gonna be just like that time at the arcade. Just like Halloween. Heâs gonna be walking and everythingâs fine until someone jumps out and it triggers a memory in his mind. What if he canât control it, and the figure in front of him suddenly turns into a Demogorgon? Or the Mind Flayer in his head?
Mike crept around the curved bend in the maze and quietly ducked into a dark alcove to think. A shout suddenly echoed and floated up into the air, the resonant cry drifting to Mikeâs ears. To anyone else the sound only meant that someone had gotten caught off guard and a laser to the chest.
What if thatâs Will? Is he okay? Â
Mike sat up slowly, hoping to find Will and make sure he was safe; he turned his head around the edge of the alcove and in the sound of slamming plastic someone crashed into him. He staggered back, registering the face.
âOh. Will, thank God. I was going to see-â
Before he could get out the last of his sentence Will took the barrel of his laser gun and pinned Mike back against the alcove wall.
He couldnât speak.
Mike only watched Will draw his lips up to his mouth, frozen in surprise. Will squeezed the trigger as their lips parted at the same time, as though theyâd wanted this from the start. He kissed Will back and shuddered when he felt a brush of those teeth along the front of his flushed lips; Mike dropped his gun and grabbed at his face, embracing the startling sensation when Will pressed himself closer, trapping him. Oh God, donât move. Donât pull away, Mike pleaded. Â
The trigger went off and Mikeâs vest buzzed and filled the space with flashing red lightâbut Will didnât let go. He just rooted him in place by the tip of the gun, its weight carrying all throughout the plastic front of his vest and into his pounding heart.
Will sighed into his open mouth, making Mike shudder involuntarily before he moved his body away. The air was filled with the sound of their shaky breathing.
âThatâs what I wanted for my birthday,â Mikeâs heart sped up at his gruff, breathy voice.
Mike reached for him again, âW-Wait-â
âShhh,â Will whispered and placed his hand on Mikeâs face, smirking, âYouâre dead, Wheeler.â
He rushed out of the alcove with a smile plastered on his face before Mike could run after him. The vest shook once more, signaling his loss, before the color faded and died. Mike slid down onto the floor and brought his fingers to his hot cheeks. His lips started to burn as the last few minutes replayed in his head, making his breathing turn ragged again and his stomach twist back into messy, feverish knots.
Mike felt the pulse roar in his ears, still staring at the empty space where Will was only moments before. Where heâd just kissed him.
What just happened?
8:49 pm
âOur team,â Eleven started, staring hopelessly out the car window into the night, âLost.â
âYep,â Dustin sighed, âThatâs what happens when youâre up against the best.â
Mike ignored their arguing and stared out the back window at the stars. They covered the dark sky, too many to count, thousands of glittering and radiant sparksâthey reminded him of Willâs eyes. So full of amber light and happiness, no matter the circumstance.
âHey.â Mike flinched when there was a tap on his shoulder. Any touch from him and Mike turned into a live wire, his lungs forgot how to work and his heart thrashed wildly inside his aching chest. He longed to let Willâs touch linger, to sustain the burning, fluttering sensation.
âYeah?â He whispered, taking the time to even his breathing before he looked at Will.
His eyes flickered between Mikeâs, searching his face. âWas that alright?â
âWas what alright?â
âBack in the arena..you know..â
Mikeâs cheeks burned tomato red as he remembered the softness of his lips and quickly murmured, âOh, yeah. That was really nice Will, I just-â
âWhat?â He leaned in, as if getting closer would help to understand. Mikeâs body tensed at the hurt beginning to show on Willâs face.
âIt..kinda caught me off guard.â
Will paused. âDo you want me to ask you next time? If itâs okay?â
Mike nodded.
Will smiled at their bodies, intentionally placed as far apart as possible. âCan I hold your hand?â
He nodded again and Will slipped his hand into Mikeâs, letting his fingers trail absently along the front of his knuckles.
âMike, this is your stop,â Lucas said from the driverâs seat. Will held his hand tighter.
âCould I come too?â Will asked him quietly, âMy mom wouldnât mind.â
âOf course,â Mike hid his red face as he climbed over the back seat to the car door.
âAight. Happy birthday, Will,â Dustin said and waved at the two.
He gave Dustin a shy smile. âThanks, guys. It was really fun.â
âDonât do anything stupid!â Max shouted out the window as the van sped away.
They stared at each other for a moment, in the quiet of the night, standing in front of the Wheelerâs unlit driveway. Until the front door swung open and Nancy was calling from the porch.
âGuess we better go in then,â Mike whispered, caught up in Willâs gaze.
He looked away, grinning. âYeah.â
9:02 pm
âThereâs so many photos here,â Will inspected the cork board on Mikeâs wall. When theyâd went inside Mike opened the window above his bed to let the peaceful night sounds in, and allow the stars outside to watch.
âWait a minute,â Will touched a piece of paper tacked on the board, âI drew this.â
âI love your art, Will. How could I not hang it up?â Mike smiled up at him, so full of affection. Heâs adorable when heâs flustered. Will muttered something under his breath and his face turned pink.
âOh, right!â Mike got off his bed and joined his side. He handed over the Polaroid photo from his pocket, âYou can pick the spot to put it up if you want.â
Will studied the picture, as if seeing it for the first time. He was close, close enough that Mike could see every detail of his face, see the curve of his lips that had fit so perfectly in his own.
âYouâre so cute.â He pointed to Mike in the photo, then tore a piece of tape to hang the Polaroid next to a small drawing. A pencil sketch of Mike, with a caption at the bottom in Willâs handwriting: my Paladin.
âY-youâre uh, pretty cute too,â Mike stammered. When Will finished hanging the picture he turned around and followed him to the bed, his head tipping up so their eyes met. The air suddenly felt very warm as they sat chest to chestâsilent except for the crickets outsideâuntil Will spoke softly.
âMikey, can I ask something?â His hazel eyes never left his face.
Mike didnât realize heâd been holding his breath.
âAnything.â
Will was leaning back on his hands, and decidedly scooted closer. âCan you..hold me please?â
His eyes widened. Willâs request was so gentle that it made Mikeâs heart burn for him. The desire to have him in his arms. âOf course I will.â
Mike took his hands and wrapped them around his neck, leaning them back on the comforter, drawing him closer than theyâd ever been before. Will nestled his cheek to Mikeâs chest as he faced the stars out the open window, his legs eased down to rest snug by his sides.
âIs this okay?â Will asked, tilting his head up so he could nestle into Mikeâs neck. His soft brown hair brushed Mikeâs skin and sent goosebumps racing up his arms. He closed his eyes and rubbed Willâs back in comforting circles.
âItâs perfect,â He said.
Will yawned. âThis was such a great birthday.â
âYeah?â
âDuh, I had my first kiss.â Will murmured, his fingers under Mikeâs neck started to play with his dark curls.
âTired?â Mike asked, his hands never leaving his back.
âOnly a little,â He replied with a drowsy smile against his chest.
He laughed and put a hand gingerly on Willâs face to move a strand of hair. In the minutes that followed he let Will fall asleep while he studied the stars outside, listened to the heartbeat of the boy on top of him, the drawing on the cork-board. The title scrawled beneath.
âMy Cleric,â Mike whispered to the stars.

how you met thomas . . .
part six
( part one ) Â ( part two ) Â ( part three ) Â ( part four )Â ( part five )
â are you sure you donât need help with anything , miss luda mae ? â
â oh now hush , youâre our guest . you just sit there and look pretty . i was worried that olâ shirt of tommyâs might of swallowed you up , but you made it look nice . â
you laughed , rubbing the back of your head and beaming as luda stood over a hot stove , making some sort of stew . hoyt was there , arms crossed and glaring at you . the feeling of his eyes burning holes into the back of your head making you a bit uncomfortable . but you guess anyone who just got chewed out by their momma in front of a stranger would feel like glaring .Â
â made ya look damn good enough to eat . â hoyt spat out with venom . luda turned , giving her son a pointed and harsh look .Â
â now listen here . youâre gonna mind your manners or youâll go bed hungry . i ainât gonna have no disrespect in this house . quick your grumbling and act like a gentleman ! â
once again you found yourself staring at the floor feeling utterly embarrassed for the older man . you brushed off his comment , wishing tommy was back down stairs so you could at least have someone to talk . you figured hoyt wouldnât be that much fun , and luda was mostly minding the stew . and if hoyt was giving you the stink eye and then you could only imagine monty would be too if he was rolled in .Â
â y/n , how about you help me out and get that spice for me off the shelf over there . â oh thank god . you got up with a polite â yes maâam â , moving to grab the container she said and offering it to her . she added it to the stew and hummed , picking up some of the veggies and meat on the spoon and offering it to you , â now tell me what you think , anâ no lyinâ i want your honest answer . â
you blew on the offered spoon softly before putting it to your lifts . a soft â mmm â left you as you chewed and swallowed . with one hand on your hip , you looked between luda and her stew , contemplating the flavors . â itâs good . could use another dash of that seasoning you got there and some more black pepper and itâd be even better . â
luda gave a smile and patted your arm gently . â thatâs what i like to hear . iâll add to it and then supperâll be ready . you go on and sit down , thank you darlinâ . iâm happy at least someone in this house gives me feed back about my cookinâ instead of being ungrateful . â
you couldnât help the twitch at your lips as you moved to the table , stopping when you saw tommy in the door way , eyes on you and an expression you couldnât place on his masked features . â hey , tommy . were are you sittinâ ? â
thomas had came down as momma had been chewing out hoyt the second time , standing in the door way to watch hoyt huff and puff and cross his arms . but the old man didnât have his attention for long before he was looking at you . he wanted to walk over , to sit next to you , maybe you would talk more to him .
but before he could move his momma was calling you over . and he couldnât help but feel like he was dreaming . it felt so right watching you . the way you brought momma her spice jar , the way momma offered you a taste and you took it , mulling over the flavors before giving your two cents . it was so domestic . and thomas couldnât stop himself from seeing you standing over a stove , calling him over to taste your cooking , a smile meant only for him on your face .
he was brought out of his fantasy by you calling out to him . the fondness on his face still there as you spoke . half in a haze , still so affected by seeing you in his shirt , seeing you be so casual with his family , he grunted and nodded towards the seat next to you . you laughed , and his chest clenched so painfully sweet in his chest . â looks like iâll be sitting next to good company . â your smile sent butterflies swarming through his stomach . and he felt weightless as he moved closer to take his seat .Â
â hoyt , go on and get monty , dinnerâs ready . â
hoyt huffed at he got up , shooting you a glare only to get one shot back from tommy . mumbling about wasting food on meat under his breath .Â
â i can help make everyoneâs bowls , miss luda mae . you can go sit down . you might be made of tough stuff , but you need rest too . besides , i donât mind . itâs the least i can do for yâall helping me out and inviting me over . â
â well ainât you a little sugar plum . alright darlinâ iâll go sit . ainât they just a little homemaker , tommy ? â you laughed at that , glancing over your shoulder as you started to pour stew into each bowl . you shot a wink to luda , being playful and silly .
â well thatâs what i was raised to be . gotta show off my only skills somehow . â you laughed as you turned back to your task .
luda gave a smug look at thomas , shoulders back and chest puffed out in smug pride . she knew what her son was thinking , and thomas wanted to hide his face in his hands at the embarrassment . you saying something like that make tommyâs heart jolt . a little homemaker . . . would you . . . could you ever be his ? he shook his head , huffing to himself and glaring at the table . he didnât want to risk looking up at luda , knowing damn well his momma was more than up to something and probably looking like a cat who stole milk .Â
hoyt rolled monty in as you started serving food . starting with luda , then going to hoy and monty , finishing with tommy and yourself . you counted your blessings that you were sat between tommy and luda . and when they offered their hands for the dinner time prayer you took them without issue . and you could have sworn you felt tommyâs hand twitch as he held yours .Â
"we were hungry and he gave us meat. thirsty and he gave us drink. amen . â
hoytâs prayer was short and to the point , and the table all mummered their own amen . the rest of the dinner went well , light conversation , mostly with smiles tossed tommyâs way when hoyt said something harsh or monty made a rude comment , he looked exhausted by them and kept sassing them with a single glare . and luda kept you entertained by asking you questions about your life , your family , your hobbies . everything seemed to meet approval , the old woman happy with how nice it was to have a kind house guest for once .Â
â well now , that was a good dinner . it always tastes better when youâve got good company . â luda mae was smiling , giving your arm a small squeeze . you could only blush and nod , eyes bright with the fact that you were able to make ludaâs evening a little better . she really was a sweet woman .Â
with a smile you got up , confusing some of the family for a moment before you started gathering empty bowls and cups from the table . hoyt huffed , making his first kind , well sorta kind , comment about how you at least had some damn manners . luda wanted to fuss but you just turned her words back on her with a goody smile .Â
â none of that now , you cooked , so iâll clean . itâs the only polite thing to do . so hush up and enjoy your family . â she laughed , swatting at you with her napkin as your sass . it drew a chuckle from tommy , his eyes soft as he watched you , yet again , act like a little homemaker . in his shirt , in his house , wearing his clothes , taking care of his familyâs dishes . that soft look of longing , of want , came over his face . heâd barely just met you , but he could tell he was already starting to get week for you .Â
you washed the dishes while humming , not minding the chore at all as the rest of the family talked , not noticing how thomas was gazing at you with such sweet intensity . but luda noticed . as did hoyt and monty . and suddenly thinks clicked in the two older menâs head . they looked to luda , who only gave a pointed look back .Â
â my baby boy deserves some happiness . ainât my fault they caught his eye . and i ainât about to let this opportunity pass him up . so yâall best be with me on this . â her voice was a harsh whisper , unheard by you over the sound of water and clanging dishes . even thomas wasnât aware of the conversation . instead heâd moved to stand next to you , picking up a clean dishrag and starting to dry as you washed . it was an excuse to be close to you , and he was thankful that you seemed to enjoy his company .Â
â tomorrow morninâ iâm gonna need you to take monty outside to look at y/nâs truck . said there might be something wrong with the ac . poor thing was red faced and burning up when she came into the store today . you think we might have something to fix it in that old barn or spare parts from those old abandoned trucks out back ? âÂ
you turned at that , flustered , â miss luda , you really donât have to . mr monty , itâs fine . i can handle a little heat and itâs not that far of a drive to where iâm going , i can take a few hours in that truck - â
â oh hush now . ainât no one can last happy in the texas heat that long while driving . if we got the parts then montyâll fix it . besides , heâs been getting lazy of late and itâll be good for him to move around and get to fixinâ somethinâ . â
you looked between them and hoyt just snickered , â ainât no use in gettinâ on mommaâs bad side . thought i wouldnât mind it if you did . â
â hush , hoyt . â
you sighed , running a hand over the back of your neck before letting your shoulders drop . â yes , maâam . if you insist . but i donât wanna just laze about . maybe thereâs something i can do to help around the house while mr monty looks at my truck ? â
â oh , weâll figure it out . for now just finish up those dishes and tommyâll show you where youâll be sleepinâ tonight .Â
thereâs a smile , a â yes , maâam â given and you return to task . itâs finsihed fairly quickly , thomas looking down and then nodding his head towards the stairs , guiding you to the second floor .
as you leave the room , luda mae turns serious as she looks at her eldest and her brother . â make sure that truck canât be driven off this property . do what you need to , but i donât want her leavinâ . thomas likes them well enough already , and theyâre good company . and look , they even went out their way to do dishes and is offering to help âround the house . you understand me . and donât you go tryinâ to chase them off . thomas deserves someone nice , and i could use a helpinâ had around here with chores . â
hoyt and monty look to each other and then back at luda . hoyt , even as cranky as he is , knows that mommaâs word is law . even if he plays himself as man of the house . â alright momma . you get to keep em . but when they see what we do and tuck tail and run - â
â they wonât . not until they need to know . â
monty huffs , not wanting to go out in the hot sun , even if it is to tear up and mess with a truck . thought he has to admit . . . maybe doing that wouldnât be so bad . itâs been a good while since he had his hands coated in grease . he nodded . â fine , as long as i get the next pretty thing . ainât fair none when hoyt getâs to tie up the pretty - â
â itâs settled then . and monty , you watch that mouth of yours . aint want them to hear nothing vulgar out your mouth . â
meanwhile , you followed tommy upstairs , completely unaware of that you were about to become more than a guest of the hewitt family .

â now listen here . youâre gonna mind your manners or youâll go bed hungry . i ainât gonna have no disrespect in this house . quick your grumbling and act like a gentleman ! â
once again you found yourself staring at the floor feeling utterly embarrassed for the older man . you brushed off his comment , wishing tommy was back down stairs so you could at least have someone to talk . you figured hoyt wouldnât be that much fun , and luda was mostly minding the stew . and if hoyt was giving you the stink eye and then you could only imagine monty would be too if he was rolled in .
â y/n , how about you help me out and get that spice for me off the shelf over there . â oh thank god . you got up with a polite â yes maâam â , moving to grab the container she said and offering it to her . she added it to the stew and hummed , picking up some of the veggies and meat on the spoon and offering it to you , â now tell me what you think , anâ no lyinâ i want your honest answer . â
you blew on the offered spoon softly before putting it to your lifts . a soft â mmm â left you as you chewed and swallowed . with one hand on your hip , you looked between luda and her stew , contemplating the flavors . â itâs good . could use another dash of that seasoning you got there and some more black pepper and itâd be even better . â
luda gave a smile and patted your arm gently . â thatâs what i like to hear . iâll add to it and then supperâll be ready . you go on and sit down , thank you darlinâ . iâm happy at least someone in this house gives me feed back about my cookinâ instead of being ungrateful . â
you couldnât help the twitch at your lips as you moved to the table , stopping when you saw tommy in the door way , eyes on you and an expression you couldnât place on his masked features . â hey , tommy . were are you sittinâ ? â
thomas had came down as momma had been chewing out hoyt the second time , standing in the door way to watch hoyt huff and puff and cross his arms . but the old man didnât have his attention for long before he was looking at you . he wanted to walk over , to sit next to you , maybe you would talk more to him .
but before he could move his momma was calling you over . and he couldnât help but feel like he was dreaming . it felt so right watching you . the way you brought momma her spice jar , the way momma offered you a taste and you took it , mulling over the flavors before giving your two cents . it was so domestic . and thomas couldnât stop himself from seeing you standing over a stove , calling him over to taste your cooking , a smile meant only for him on your face .
he was brought out of his fantasy by you calling out to him . the fondness on his face still there as you spoke . half in a haze , still so affected by seeing you in his shirt , seeing you be so casual with his family , he grunted and nodded towards the seat next to you . you laughed , and his chest clenched so painfully sweet in his chest . â looks like iâll be sitting next to good company . â your smile sent butterflies swarming through his stomach . and he felt weightless as he moved closer to take his seat .
â hoyt , go on and get monty , dinnerâs ready . â
hoyt huffed at he got up , shooting you a glare only to get one shot back from tommy . mumbling about wasting food on meat under his breath .
â i can help make everyoneâs bowls , miss luda mae . you can go sit down . you might be made of tough stuff , but you need rest too . besides , i donât mind . itâs the least i can do for yâall helping me out and inviting me over . â
â well ainât you a little sugar plum . alright darlinâ iâll go sit . ainât they just a little homemaker , tommy ? â you laughed at that , glancing over your shoulder as you started to pour stew into each bowl . you shot a wink to luda , being playful and silly .
â well thatâs what i was raised to be . gotta show off my only skills somehow . â you laughed as you turned back to your task .
luda gave a smug look at thomas , shoulders back and chest puffed out in smug pride . she knew what her son was thinking , and thomas wanted to hide his face in his hands at the embarrassment . you saying something like that make tommyâs heart jolt . a little homemaker ⌠would you ⌠could you ever be his ? he shook his head , huffing to himself and glaring at the table . he didnât want to risk looking up at luda , knowing damn well his momma was more than up to something and probably looking like a cat who stole milk .
hoyt rolled monty in as you started serving food . starting with luda , then going to hoy and monty , finishing with tommy and yourself . you counted your blessings that you were sat between tommy and luda . and when they offered their hands for the dinner time prayer you took them without issue . and you could have sworn you felt tommyâs hand twitch as he held yours .
âwe were hungry and he gave us meat. thirsty and he gave us drink. amen . â
hoytâs prayer was short and to the point , and the table all mummered their own amen . the rest of the dinner went well , light conversation , mostly with smiles tossed tommyâs way when hoyt said something harsh or monty made a rude comment , he looked exhausted by them and kept sassing them with a single glare . and luda kept you entertained by asking you questions about your life , your family , your hobbies . everything seemed to meet approval , the old woman happy with how nice it was to have a kind house guest for once .
â well now , that was a good dinner . it always tastes better when youâve got good company . â luda mae was smiling , giving your arm a small squeeze . you could only blush and nod , eyes bright with the fact that you were able to make ludaâs evening a little better . she really was a sweet woman .
with a smile you got up , confusing some of the family for a moment before you started gathering empty bowls and cups from the table . hoyt huffed , making his first kind , well sorta kind , comment about how you at least had some damn manners . luda wanted to fuss but you just turned her words back on her with a goody smile .
â none of that now , you cooked , so iâll clean . itâs the only polite thing to do . so hush up and enjoy your family . â she laughed , swatting at you with her napkin as your sass . it drew a chuckle from tommy , his eyes soft as he watched you , yet again , act like a little homemaker . in his shirt , in his house , wearing his clothes , taking care of his familyâs dishes . that soft look of longing , of want , came over his face . heâd barely just met you , but he could tell he was already starting to get week for you .
you washed the dishes while humming , not minding the chore at all as the rest of the family talked , not noticing how thomas was gazing at you with such sweet intensity . but luda noticed . as did hoyt and monty . and suddenly thinks clicked in the two older menâs head . they looked to luda , who only gave a pointed look back .
â my baby boy deserves some happiness . ainât my fault they caught his eye . and i ainât about to let this opportunity pass him up . so yâall best be with me on this . â her voice was a harsh whisper , unheard by you over the sound of water and clanging dishes . even thomas wasnât aware of the conversation . instead heâd moved to stand next to you , picking up a clean dishrag and starting to dry as you washed . it was an excuse to be close to you , and he was thankful that you seemed to enjoy his company .
â tomorrow morninâ iâm gonna need you to take monty outside to look at y/nâs truck . said there might be something wrong with the ac . poor thing was red faced and burning up when she came into the store today . you think we might have something to fix it in that old barn or spare parts from those old abandoned trucks out back ? â
you turned at that , flustered , â miss luda , you really donât have to . mr monty , itâs fine . i can handle a little heat and itâs not that far of a drive to where iâm going , i can take a few hours in that truck - â
â oh hush now . ainât no one can last happy in the texas heat that long while driving . if we got the parts then montyâll fix it . besides , heâs been getting lazy of late and itâll be good for him to move around and get to fixinâ somethinâ . â
you looked between them and hoyt just snickered , â ainât no use in gettinâ on mommaâs bad side . thought i wouldnât mind it if you did . â
â hush , hoyt . â
you sighed , running a hand over the back of your neck before letting your shoulders drop . â yes , maâam . if you insist . but i donât wanna just laze about . maybe thereâs something i can do to help around the house while mr monty looks at my truck ? â
â oh , weâll figure it out . for now just finish up those dishes and tommyâll show you where youâll be sleepinâ tonight .
thereâs a smile , a â yes , maâam â given and you return to task . itâs finsihed fairly quickly , thomas looking down and then nodding his head towards the stairs , guiding you to the second floor .
as you leave the room , luda mae turns serious as she looks at her eldest and her brother . â make sure that truck canât be driven off this property . do what you need to , but i donât want her leavinâ . thomas likes them well enough already , and theyâre good company . and look , they even went out their way to do dishes and is offering to help âround the house . you understand me . and donât you go tryinâ to chase them off . thomas deserves someone nice , and i could use a helpinâ had around here with chores . â
hoyt and monty look to each other and then back at luda . hoyt , even as cranky as he is , knows that mommaâs word is law . even if he plays himself as man of the house . â alright momma . you get to keep em . but when they see what we do and tuck tail and run - â
â they wonât . not until they need to know . â
monty huffs , not wanting to go out in the hot sun , even if it is to tear up and mess with a truck . thought he has to admit ⌠maybe doing that wouldnât be so bad . itâs been a good while since he had his hands coated in grease . he nodded . â fine , as long as i get the next pretty thing . ainât fair none when hoyt getâs to tie up the pretty - â
â itâs settled then . and monty , you watch that mouth of yours . aint want them to hear nothing vulgar out your mouth . â
meanwhile , you followed tommy upstairs , completely unaware of that you were about to become more than a guest of the hewitt family .

Not the Type: 5/7
The muse has awakened! I feel awful for keeping ya'll waiting so long (5 months? seriously?!) for an update on this fic. I actually decided to split this chapter up once it reached 2k because I didn't want you waiting any longer for another chapter. So, this will now be 7 chapters plus an epilogue. Much thanks to my beta @hookedonapirateâ for untangling my awkward wording and making me sound so much better! You have a way of getting what I'm trying to say and making it flow. What would I do without you? Thanks to the @captainswanmoviemarathonâ mods for being so patient and understanding when I had to put this on the back burner. And finally, thank you to my dear friend @snowbellewellsâ for helping me get the muse kickstarted again on this fic. You rock!
Oh, and fun fact: The part in this chapter about Rubyâs cheer injury really happened - to me when I was a cheerleader long, long ago . . .
Summary: Emma Swan first notices him in the stands at the Friday night football game. She can tell right away Killian Jones is not the football type. Then again, sheâs not the cheerleader type either, but here she is with pom poms. Life hasnât ever gone the way Emma planned. Lately, thatâs actually been a good thing. Maybe Killian Jones is a good thing, too.

Chapter Five
âYouâve got to let go of me for one second,â Emma giggled, her tone and the fact that she was simultaneously wrapping her free arm tighter around Killianâs waist completely contradicting her words.
âDo as I say, not as I do, hm?â
âIâm trying to get the mail!â
âSo?â
âSo youâre kissing my neck.â
âHm, so I am.â
He flashed her a dazzling smile, his blue eyes slightly dazed, like he was drunk on love or something. Love? Emma wriggled free of his embrace as the word penetrated her lust filled, teenage brain. They couldnât be in love or anything like that. This wasnât a 90's rom com or something.
Killian was unfazed by her sudden distance, his hands still finding purchase on her elbow and hip; her hair still tickling his nose and mouth. She reached into the mailbox, pulled out an unusually thick stack and started flipping through it as Killian snaked his arms around her waist from behind and propped his chin on her shoulder. Emma wasnât surprised to see college brochures; they had begun coming with increasing regularity now that she and her brother were juniors. One white envelope with blue writing gave her pause, however. It was addressed to her, and this was no brochure. It was a very official looking letter. Emmaâs hands trembled as she tore it open.
âWhat is it?â Killian mumbled the question, far more interested in her neck at the moment.
Emma scanned the contents of the letter, and the more the words sank in, the more she trembled. So much so that the rest of the mail went fluttering to the sidewalk. Killian was finally pulled away from his obsession with her neck and spoke his next question with deep concern.
âIs everything okay?â
âYeah . . . I, um,â she swallowed hard as conflicting emotions swirled in her brain. âThe University of Kentucky is interested in recruiting me for their cheerleading squad.â
âThatâs amazing, Swan!â
âYou have no idea,â Emma said softly as she sank down onto the front step of her apartment building.
Killian gathered up the rest of the mail, then came and sat next to her. âThen continue in my cheerleading education, love.â
Emma chuckled, though she was also touched by the obvious interest he held in her pursuits, even if they werenât necessarily in line with his.
âUK has the best cheer program in the country,â Emma explained. âTheyâve won an insane number of national titles, probably more than any other college. You donât just make the squad, you get a full ride. Theyâre that good.â
Killian lifted her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles. âSee? I knew you were bloody brilliant.â
Emma returned his bright smile with a shaky one of her own. âYouâre so sweet.â
âYouâre not excited about this?â
Emma bit her lip, staring at the letter in her hands until the words started to blur together. âI am. Itâs just . . . this means theyâll be sending recruiters to our competitions. Thatâs a lot of pressure.â
âIâm sure youâll rise to the occasion.â
Emmaâs lips lifted in a half-hearted smile. Her head collapsed onto his shoulder, and he brushed his lips against her forehead.
âA full ride . . . â
She let the thought fade into the air. How could she screw up an offer like this? It would help Ruth out so much, and her brother, too.
Yeah, no pressure.
*******************************************************
âHey, Em!â
One of Rubyâs dirty socks bounced off Emmaâs head and landed in her lap. With a disgusted grumble, she batted it to the floor.
âRubes, thatâs gross!â
âWell, youâre sitting there, staring into space. Donât tell me youâre suddenly embarrassed to put that thing on in front of everybody.â
Emma looked down at the sports bra still clutched in her right hand. They all learned early on that there was no modest way to squeeze your boobs into a sports bra, so the squad basically had to get real comfortable around each other real fast. And contrary to every teen movie ever made, there was nothing sexy about it. It was just athletes being a team in the locker room.
You know, like male athletes.
âOh God, sheâs contemplating sexism in sports again,â Ariel groaned.
âShe is!â crowed Ruby. âLook how sheâs staring at that sports bra!â
âYou mean this torture device?â Emma quipped, waving the garment in the air like a feminist about to burn something.
âShe isnât wrong,â Mary Margaret put in.
âWell, I for one am thankful for the torture device,â Jasmine piped up.
âHere we go again,â groaned Tiana.
âItâs true!â Jasmine cried out. âI donât want the girls flopping around. It hurts!â
âWhile this discussion is incredibly enlightening,â a voice said dryly from the doorway, âIâd prefer we start running our competition routine, if you ladies donât mind.â
They all mumbled apologies to Coach Ava, along with promises to get out of the locker room as quickly as possible. Emma shed her blouse and regular bra, then struggled her way into her sports bra before slipping a cheer camp t-shirt over her head. She paused before one of the cracked mirrors that hung above a row of ancient porcelain sinks that dated back to the 1950s. Being a girlsâ team that didnât really bring in any ticket sales, the cheerleading squad was relegated to practicing in the old gym. It could've been worse, however. The seniors remembered their freshman year, before the new gym was built, when the cheerleaders were forced to practice in the atrium at the front of the school. The atrium was great for painting bust-throughs, but Emma couldnât imagine having to practice there.
As Emma tugged her hair into a messy ponytail, she thought of the letter she had shoved in the front pocket of her backpack. She'd planned on showing it to Ruby and Mary Margaret, but for some reason, she'd lost her nerve. She sighed as she made her way out of the locker room. Letter or no letter, she had to get her head on straight.
As usual, the girls started off running a mile around the gym, and just like every other practice, Emma started off keeping pace with Ruby and Mary Margaret. Her mind was still a million miles away, however.
In Kentucky, she supposed. The bluegrass state. Was the grass really blue? I mean, it couldnât be. How can grass be blue?
âHey,â Ruby panted, leaning over her knees when the run was over, âwhatâs with you?â
âWhatâs what?â
Emmaâs brow furrowed as she did a calf stretch. She was always getting charley horses in the middle of the night during competition season. Ruth kept bugging her to eat a banana every day, but she despised bananas. They were so mushy . . .
âEarth to Emma,â Mary Margaret laughed.
Ruby snapped her fingers in Emmaâs face.
âWhat happened to the Emma we know and love?â she asked. âYou know, the one who leaves us in the dust every practice, laughing her ass off the whole way?â
âItâs not my fault you two do a leisurely jog instead of a run.â
âRunning is what you do when youâre being chased,â Mary Margaret countered. It was her usual argument.
Ruby narrowed her eyes at Emma. âYouâre avoiding my question.â
âLunges, girls, across the gym floor!â shouted Coach Ava, saving Emma from responding. She lined up with the rest of the squad along one side of the gym, then stepped forward with her right leg, her hands on her hips.
âIs it Killian?â Ruby hissed at her left.
âNo!â
âJust drop it,â Mary Margaret snapped.
âYeah,â Emma grunted as she lowered herself into another lunge, âitâs kinda hard to talk and do these at the same time.â
âTiana, I wanna see a right angle on those lunges!â their coach called out. âRuby, you might be able to keep your balance if you stop exercising your mouth!â
Emma laughed loudly as Ruby wobbled and almost went down. âYeah, Rubes, Iâd concentrate if I were you.â
And just to rub her friendâs face in it, Emma sped up her lunges, reaching the other side of the gym first.
âExcellent job,â Coach Ava praised her. âSmooth, with speed, and you didnât lose your form.â
Ruby practically growled when Emma threw a smirk her way.
They did a few more drills, warmed up their tumbling with a few simple passes, then gathered on the mats to go through their routine. Coach Ava was still making a few simple changes, but for the most part, it was now all about committing it to muscle memory. They needed to be able to practically do the routine in their sleep by the time December rolled around. And that was only five weeks away.
The girls got into position, and the music started. They were opening with a tumbling peel off. The girls in the front did a standing back handspring, the girls in the middle a standing back tuck, and then . . .
Emma got to shine as she kept going. Out of a standing back tuck, into two back handsprings, and then finally into a full twisting double back as the music crescendoed. Usually, Emmaâs adrenaline had her ending the pass with a huge smile on her face, but today she under-rotated and almost landed flat on her face. She tried to shake it off, but in the teamâs first pyramid, she started to lose her balance, almost taking the rest of the team down with her. Emma chastised herself to get it together as her stunt group moved into position for their next stunt - a twist up
Their âthemeâ this year was hair. They whipped their ponytails a lot in the dance portion, and every song had to do with hair. In the next stunt, Emma had to pull up on her ponytail while she twisted up into an arabesque, as if she was pulling herself up by her hair.
It was a little like patting her head and rubbing her stomach at the same time, which was incredibly frustrating to Emma. The stupid hair pull was supposed to be a cool bit of choreography, not rocket science. Yet, once again, Emma seemed to get her arms, her long hair, and her legs tangled into a mass as she twisted upward. What happened next, Emma was never entirely sure. Ruby yelled, Emma felt herself tilting sideways and she panicked, making a rookie mistake - she attempted to jump down from the stunt. Her fist was still gripped in her hair, which she almost yanked out in the fall, and she kicked her spotter away - another rookie mistake. Thankfully, Coach Ava was able to dart forward in time to catch Emma. Behind her, she heard what she swore were skulls crashing together.
It was a pretty accurate description.
Ruby was swearing loudly as she clutched her chin. A little blood seeped between her fingers. Ashley covered her mouth with both hands, and Emma was alarmed to see a lot of blood rolling down the blondeâs chin and staining her shirt. Ava abandoned Emma to check on the two bases, barking at Mary Margaret to run and get the first aid kid.
Emma felt like the worst human being in the world. She clutched at her middle and kept whispering âIâm so sorryâ over and over again, but no one paid her any attention.
Ava cleaned up the blood pouring from Ashleyâs mouth enough to ascertain that all of her teeth were still intact. She just had a busted lip, something many of them had endured in the past. It was crazy how badly a mouth injury bled. As for Ruby, she didn't even need a band-aid once the blood was cleaned away with an antiseptic wipe.
âWatch it carefully for infection,â Coach Ava advised.
âWhy?â Ruby asked with a furrowed brow.
Ava winced slightly before reluctantly explaining. âThey're bite marks. Ashleyâs teeth collided with your chin.â
âWHAT??â Ruby screeched.
The rest of the squad crowded around to see as Coach Ava tilted Rubyâs chin up for a better look. Sure enough, there were two teeth-shaped puncture marks, like sheâd been attacked by a wild animal. Practically growling in irritation, Ruby shoved her teammates aside and rushed to the locker room for a better look.
Rubyâs scream moments later had all of the girls collapsing with laughter.
âWell,â Ava sighed, âI suppose weâre taking a little break before we run the routine again.â
*************************************************
âSo Ruby has bite marks on her chin?â
Emma snort-laughed through her nose at the look on Killianâs face. âYep. And the rumors about how she got them get more and more unbelievable as the day goes by.â
Killian rolled his eyes before taking a bite of his sandwich. âBloody gitsâ
It was too cold now to sit under the trees in the school courtyard, so she and Killian were tucked into a hidden corner in the school atrium. They had to whisper, though, because sounds reverberated against the domed ceiling. Emma couldnât imagine cheering in this space. How did the seniors not go deaf?
âItâs not really a sexy place for bite marks though,â Emma said as she licked Cheeto powder off her fingers.
âYeah, I can think of far kinkier places.â
She smacked him in the chest as he waggled his eyebrows at her. She wanted to be indignant at his innuendo, but instead her cheeks burned as her mind plunged straight into the gutter. She already knew a little bit of what Killian could do with his teeth . . .
âSorry,â he apologized, shifting gears faster than she would have thought possible, âI donât mean to be an idiot like all the rest.â
Killian blushed and scratched behind his ear. She practically melted at the way he could so swiftly go from irrepressible flirt to sweet boyfriend. She leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek.
Emma crumpled up the Cheeto bag and stuffed it into her lunch bag. She handed the wad of trash to her boyfriend sweetly, batting her lashes exaggeratedly. Killian took her trash, chuckling as he stood up.
âYou donât have to use doe eyes to get me to do things for you,â he told her before walking to the trash can beside the front doors.
âI donât?â
âNever,â he answered as he returned to her side. He sat back down on the floor, his back against the wall, and pulled her snug against his chest.
âSo youâll just wait on me hand and foot?â
âLike the princess you are.â
âWow, I should really take more advantage of how whipped you are,â she joked.
Killian retaliated by tickling her in the ribs. She wriggled and laughed, but made no attempt to pull away from him. She glanced around, saw no adults, and then pressed her lips to his.
He kissed her back, sliding a hand into her hair. They kept it brief, not wanting to get caught. Storybrooke High gave demerits for PDA. Emma was tempted to just take the demerits so she could kiss her boyfriend thoroughly, but Coach Ava would pull her from the competition line up if she got one more demerit. So Emma just sighed and snuggled against Killianâs chest. He began to idly play with her hair.
âHow many demerits do you get for PDA?â
Emma craned her neck to look at him. âHow did you know I was thinking that?â
He grinned down at her rakishly. âI didnât. But how many?â
Emma frowned. âItâs not bad, but itâs still too many for me. Iâve already gotten five demerits and six will get me cut from competition.â
âScandalous. How did you get five demerits, love?â
Emma grumbled as she shoved a stray hair out of her eyes. âThe first two I got because I argued with Mr. Gold about a paper he unfairly gave me a C- on. Then he wrote me up just for questioning him about it!â
âThe bastard. And the other three?â
âThat was me being stupid. I used the vending machine after noon.â
Killianâs laughter shook his chest, making Emma smile.
âThatâs a stupid rule anyway.â
âI know, right? I forgot my lunch!â Emma tightened her arms around Killian. âPrincipal Mills did let me keep the chips, though.â
They were silent for a moment. Killian was still playing with her hair. She felt him take a deep breath and release it.
âHave you told the squad yet? About UK?â
Emma sighed. She figured he would ask her this eventually. âI will.â
âEmma -â
âI will.â She knew she needed to. Her friends could tell something was off, and she couldnât afford to be distracted at any more practices.
Or any competitions.
Of course, if she screwed up this badly at a competition, The University of Kentucky might change their minds.

For the Summer of Whump Day 19 Prompt - Fear
âAnd just to show you we mean businessâŚâ Peter flinched when his index finger was grabbed and sharply snapped in half, leaving him breathless. He didnât scream though. He wasnât going to give them the satisfaction. âTough kid,â the leader mused, petting Peter on the head. âIâm going to let my men work him over,â he said to the camera lightly. âYou pay me within the next four hours and I wonât start cutting off things heâll miss. Sure would be a shame⌠heâs got his whole life ahead of him you know.â

âOne more hour! Câmon, just one more hour please,â Peter begged, hands twitching and sweating as he looked around frantically. He could do it. He just had to do it.
âWhatcha doing Pete?â Tony asked right in his ear causing Peter to let out a high pitched scream and rip the VR headset off his head, nearly tossing it into the wall and only barely catching himself at the last second.
âWhat the fuck!â He exclaimed, panting and placing a hand over his racing heart â it was galloping under his fingertips. Tony, standing next to him with his hand extend like he was reaching out to touch Peter, had his face pinched up like he was trying not to laugh and failing spectacularly.
âWhat was that?â The man questioned, pulling the headset from Peterâs twitching fingers to set it down on the bed and safely out of reach lest Peter almost throw it again. âYou okay?â
âYou scared the shit out of me!â Peter told his mentor dramatically as his heart rate slowed to a more manageable rhythm. Damn he was so close to winning!
Tony quirked an eyebrow. âThought you had a tingle or something,â he said with a teasing tone and that was it, Peter was never letting Tony and May have lunch together again. Tingle⌠seriously? âWhat were you doing anyway?â Tony asked, picking the headset back up and turning it around curiously in dexterous fingers.
âPlaying FNAF,â Peter said with a shrug. âI had nearly won too!â
âBeg pardon?â Tony asked with a head tilt. âDid you just have a stroke? I donât speak teenager.â
âItâs a game Mr. Stark,â Peter grumbled, grabbing the headset back to turn it off. âA horror game. Youâre a security guard and you have to live through the night without a bunch of animatronic animals killing you.â
âSounds exhausting,â Tony commented, passing Peter his untouched book bag â he was supposed to be doing homework while Mr. Stark was in a meeting but oh well. He could always do it later, it was the weekend after all. âHappyâs pulling the car around. You sure you donât want to stay? Itâs getting a bit late.â
âIâm good,â Peter insisted, throwing the bag over his back and tightening the straps a little to sit more comfortably. âBesides, May and I are supposed to marathon the new season of Lucifer tonight.â
âAh yes,â Tony said with a smile. âDo tell aunt hottie I said hello would you? Iâm looking forward to our monthly co-parenting coffee date next week â canât wait to tell her about this!â
Peter groaned and blushed. âPlease donât,â he muttered, skirting around his mentor to get to the door. âSee you next week?â He asked as he paused in the doorway, turning back to look at the man and smiling.
âYeah Iâll see you next week kiddo. Donât have too much fun this weekend!â
âBye Mr. Stark!â Peter called as he raced to the elevator, bouncing impatiently on his toes as it descended to the garage where Happy was waiting in one of the many black town cars Stark Industries owned.
âTook you long enough,â he groused good naturedly as Peter hopped into the back, dropping his book bag into the foot well and buckling his seatbelt with a bright âhey Happy!â before pulling out his battered copy of The Collected Works of Shakespeare. He was supposed to finish MacBeth before class on Monday morning and he had been putting it off for a while (re: the last two weeks). Thank god for SparkNotes!
He read in the peaceful silence of the car as Happy navigated the busy Manhattan roads into the more quiet streets of Queens, finally pulling to a stop in front of Peterâs building and unlocking the doors. âSee you Monday kid,â he called as Peter jumped out of the car.
âThanks for the ride Happy!â Peter answered as he shut the door and waved the car off before letting out a sigh. It had been a long week and he was looking forward to just hanging out with May and decompressing. He felt like he barely saw her these days since she moved to working nights â it had been way too long since their last Netflix binge sesh. Peter took the stairs two at a time, forgoing the ancient and slow elevator, and was soon standing outside his door, fumbling for his keys.
As he went to slip the correct key into the lock, Peter felt every hair on his body stand on end as a shiver tore through him. He paused and looked up and down his hallway. Everything was quiet and peaceful, nothing out of place, so why was his Spidey sense tingling? With a gulp, Peter looked at his door and felt his heart freeze in his chest. May!
Peter swiftly unlocked the door and threw it open only to pause just over the threshold.
May was seated in one of their kitchen chairs, pulled into eye line of the door to the apartment, and looking pale but utterly pissed as the masked man behind her jammed the muzzle of his gun further into her temple. Peter, his heart nearly beating out of his chest and his adrenaline spiking to leave a metallic taste in his mouth, held his hands up immediately in surrender. As if it would ever be a question with May involved.
âClose the door,â the man said firmly, jutting his chin and Peter felt it snap closed behind him, paying no mind to the other invaders that were scattered around the room, his eyes stuck only on May.
âWhat do you want?â He asked, surprised that his voice was steady â he could tell that his body was still and sure but inside he felt like he was about to shake apart; like he was standing in the epicenter of an earthquake.
âYour cooperation mostly,â the man with the gun answered, passing the weapon off to one of his underlings and approaching where Peter stood motionless, hands still raised, just inside the door. His eyes were a pale blue and they scraped over Peterâs form quickly before he held out his hand. âPhone, watch, bag. Give me anything that Stark might have chipped and donât try anything funny. Iâd hate for anything⌠untoward to happen to your Aunt.â
âOkay,â Peter agreed, slowly pulling his bag off his shoulders and letting it drop to the floor with a thump. One of the men behind him picked it up and started riffling through it as Peter unlatched his watch and passed it over along with his phone. He was grateful that he hadnât brought his suit with him to school today or heâd have a much bigger problem â assuming they didnât already know he was Spider-Man of course.
âSearch him,â the man called out as he dropped Peterâs phone and watch to the floor before pointedly stomping on them until they broke. Peter fought to hold still as he was patted down, making eye contact with May. She gave a minute shake of her head and Peter bit his tongue hard enough to draw blood. He knew she didnât want him to compromise his identity for her but he would do whatever he could to keep her safe â Spider-Man be damned.
âHeâs clean,â one of the goons called out, nudging Peter forward and forcing him to sit down opposite May.
âPeter Parker,â the leader mused, walking over until he took up all of Peterâs sight leaving May out of view and ratcheting Peterâs already frantic heart rate up more. âTony Starkâs personal intern. How does one get that job eh?â He looked at Peter expectantly and Peter grit his teeth together.
âRight place right time,â Peter grunted, his eye contact never wavering. The leader frowned behind his mask and smacked Peter sharply, causing his head to whip to the side. It was more surprising than painful and Peter glared back in obvious loathing.
âThat will be your only warning,â the leader grunted, leaning down so he was eye level with Peter. âNext time itâll be your aunt. Do I make myself clear?â
âCrystal,â Peter confirmed, gripping the arms of his chair tightly and trying to control his strength. By his count there were five men in their apartment. If he were alone or in the suit it wouldnât be a problem but with May involvedâŚ
âNow letâs try again,â the man continued, pacing a circle around Peterâs chair like a shark circling prey and thus giving him the briefest chance to make eye contact with May again. The skin of her forehead was red and dented where the gun mashed into her face. But he eyes were full of fear and anger for Peter â her sight was locked on the cheek he could feel burning and already swelling. âHow did you get your internship?â
âSeptember Foundation,â Peter answered. âI submitted some of my work on clean energy and Mr. Stark was impressed enough to offer me the internship.â
The man hummed, stopping his circling and placed both hands on Peterâs shoulders, squeezing them. âBut itâs not just an internship anymore now is it?â He questioned, tone light. âI doubt any normal intern gets access to Starkâs personal lab or stays overnight. For a while I thought you might be his bastard but, no, it doesnât seem you are.â Peter tensed at the words and bit down hard on the inside of his cheek, tasting blood. âHowever you are important enough for him to pay handsomely for Iâd wager.â
âHe wonât,â Peter insisted, not breaking eye contact with May â she looked terrified now and he wasnât sure who she was scared for most. âHe doesnât negotiate with kidnappers.â
âWeâll see,â the man said lightly, unconcerned. âHereâs the deal Parker. Youâre going to come with us, quietly, and I wonât put a bullet through your auntâs skull. I hear that you watched your uncle bleed out from something similar â wouldnât want another death on your conscience now would you?â Peter flinched violently, unable to hold it back and felt tears prick at his eyes. He couldnât cry now. Not in front of these assholes. âYouâre going to come with us and, once we get you back to base, Iâll call in the order to let your aunt go. If they donât hear from me within the next six hours⌠well Iâm sure you can figure it out.â
Peter nodded slowly and tried to silently apologize to May â she was watching him with tears now cascading down her cheeks and shaking her head, begging him not to give in. âIâll do whatever you want,â Peter agreed, sealing his fate.
His Spidey-sense screamed at him and he forced himself to hold still as the gun clocked him across the temple, knocking him out instantly.
âââââââââââââ
When Peter finally woke up some indeterminate amount of time later it was to a throbbing head and aching neck from sitting slumped over and tied to the most uncomfortable chair he had ever had the displeasure of sitting in. He opened his eyes with a groan to look around the room. It was darkened, of course because why wouldnât it be, and empty, also not a surprise. The door in front of him was made of a dark metal the same as the chair he was sitting in which was bolted to the floor.
He tested the cuffs that were binding his wrists to each arm of the chair and found that they werenât reinforced and should break easily with his strength. So they didnât know he was Spider-Man then â that was a plus. Peter could work with that.
Before he could look around much more or even try to formulate a plan, the door in front of him flew open to admit multiple people, all in masks, and a camera set up that had Peterâs blood running cold.
âI have to thank you for your cooperation,â the man from earlier said gaily as he entered the room last. âYou made this much easier than anticipated.â
âMy aunt?â Peter asked, voice wobbling a little but his eye contact unwavering.
âFine. As we agreed,â the man confirmed, kneeling down a little to look directly into Peterâs eyes. âNow weâre going to make Stark a little video, a one-sided video chat if you will, to ask him for a little⌠monetary gift. All you have to do is sit here and look pretty while we do all the work okay?â He said condescendingly, running a hand through Peterâs hair before patting his cheek mockingly.
It took all of Peterâs willpower not to head butt him directly in the nose.
The set up was done fairly quickly, the camera pointed directly at Peter and the red light blinking. His captor came to stand right behind him, hands resting on Peterâs shoulders again.
âOh looks like heâs tuned it! Hello Stark, I think I found something that belongs to you,â the leader said, squeezing Peterâs shoulders. âYou shouldnât just leave your things lying around you know. Donât want them to get displaced.â Peter grit his teeth in irritation and humiliation â he couldnât believe he had let himself get kidnapped â that he had put Mr. Stark in this position! âAnyway,â he continued lightly, âI have a little request. A trade if you will. Iâll give you back your intern and you give me twenty million dollars and a clean way out of the country. Shouldnât be too hard for you right?â
Donât do it Peter tapped out on the arm of the chair in hasty Morse code. Donât give them anything. Iâve got this Peter tried to say with his eyes. Trust me.
âAnd just to show you we mean businessâŚâ Peter flinched when his index finger was grabbed and sharply snapped in half, leaving him breathless.
Later, his jaw hanging loose and his body aching with breaks and bruises, Peter will let a single tear fall.
The door knob turns and his adrenaline spikes.

Hiâ¤ď¸â¤ď¸ I'd like to request Shoto whose friendly s/o is really into Halloween and wants to do matching outfits together. Idk it's spooky season and I'd love to see todobb living it âşď¸âşď¸ thank u for ur work â¤ď¸â¤ď¸đđ
A/N: ahh- this was really nice! Thank you for your request, I consulted my best friend for the costume ideas and we had the time of our lives trying to come up with them
So, umm, I really hope you guys like it, this is the second time I ever wrote for Todoroki, so I probably should work on it a bit more, but I think it turned out well!
Warnings: I think thereâs none but I canât be sure since Bakugou is here heh
Word count: 4k cuz I have no self control
Genre: fluff!
A cursed kiss-
"Aizawa sensei gave us green light!" Mina exclaimed as she entered the class, visibly skipping. Kaminari punched the air with victory. These were the words that caused everyone to jump in their seats in excitement.
"He did?" Ochako didn't lose a second and ran towards her to get details, the rest of the class wasn't any better, either. Even Bakugou was up on his feet, trying to look as uninterested as he could.
The social butterfly that she is, Mina obviously had no problems with having a crowd around her. "He said he would kill us if he caught any of us with alcohol." She muttered, and Kaminari visibly deflated. "Oh, man, there goes the chance to get lightweight Bakugou drunk!"
"Hagh, who you calling lightweight?! You were the one who got drunk with a beer! One Beer!" He shot back, the class erupting with laughter at the memory of Kaminari. Even Shouto snickered quietly.
"Whats going on?" You finally stood up, pulling your hand out from the warm hands of your boyfriends. When he pouted at the sudden lack of contact and locked his eyes on his hand that just had your hand in it, you sent an apologetic smile his way. "I'll just learn whats up and will be right back, 'kay?"
You walked towards the big crowd, Mina being the first to spot you. "I see you could finally get separated from your boyfriend." She commented with a grin, her words causing your face to warm up and your friends to giggle.
"I wanted a front seat of Kaminari getting burned." You answered, making the said boy frown. "Hey, that's mean!" He exclaimed, but his protests just seemed to fuel the fun Kirishima and Sero were having.
"So, what's really happening?" You asked, ignoring the pout Kaminari was sending your way.
"We're throwing a Halloween party!" Yaoyorozu answered, and the boys cheered with excitement.
"We are? How did you even convince Aizawa sensei?" You asked in disbelief, causing Mina to chuckle mysteriously. "I have my ways." She told you smugly, though you were aware it was just another way of saying 'I didn't give him any rest until he said yes.'
"Ooh, this is gonna be great! Right, Baku?" Kirishima muttered, nudging Bakugou slightly and earning a glare. "I don't care about a stupid party, what are you, five?"
Even if he had a scoff on his lips, you all knew better and were aware that he was as excited as the rest of you were.
"I have a really original costume idea, you know." Kaminari told the group with a proud smile on his face, though instead of getting the curious attention he expected, he just heard snickers.
"How much do you wanna bet on him coming as Pikachu?" Kirishima whispered to Sero, both giggling uncontrollably when Kaminari's eyes widened with shock. "How did you know?!"
âŞď¸âŞď¸âŞď¸
Tapping the pencil that was in your hands to the paper that laid in front of you, you sighed, feeling the steam coming out of your ears, even though you couldn't even finish the first question.
"Babe, what should we do for Halloween?" You looked at Shouto, who was sitting on his desk, focused on the math homework in front of him, having no problems with it, unlike you. You bit your lip, it sometimes amazed you how handsome he was.
"What do you mean, isn't there a party?" He asked, laying his pencil down and looking at you with a confused look on his face that you just found adorable.
You giggled -suppressing the urge to pinch his cheeks.- "Yeah, baby, I meant as what costume we should do." You had to admit, this was one of the many reasons you couldn't focus on the paper in front of you, since the second you heard about the party, it was the only thing that swarmed in your mind.
"Oh." He said softly. "Do we have to wear costumes?"
"Of course we do!" You told him, shocked. "And- we should do a couples costume, too!" He tilted his head slightly to the left, something you often saw him doing.
"We can do that?"
The question had you waiting to kiss him and/or bang your head to the wall. "Not only can, but we also have to do it." When his confused expression didn't change, you sighed. "I love Halloween and wearing costumes, and it's really fun! And since this is our first Halloween... I thought it would be cute if we went wearing matching costumes."
You stood up in need to be closer to him, and as always, he greeted you with open arms. Even though he wasn't big on showing affection in public, and usually just held your hand, he was just a big baby when you were alone. But then again, you had no complaints, whatsoever.
"I see you're very excited about this." He mumbled into your hair, and you smiled. "I am, baby, and you should be too! It's my favorite season, and all my best memories were on Halloween! Oh, come on, didn't you have any amazing or really scary adventures as a kid in Halloween?" You exclaimed, threading your fingers through his two-colored locks.
"Actually- don't answer that." You corrected yourself when he sent a blank look your way.
"But still, I think you're gonna love it, too! Okay, enough talk of how amazing Halloween is, let's think. Any suggestions?"
"Can you give me an example?" He asked after staying silent for a second or so. "Oh, umm, something like Batman and Catwoman, but let's not do that." You added before he agreed to it.
"Oh, that's not scary, though, is it?" He muttered and smiled when you giggled. "It doesn't have to be scary, it's really just an excuse to wear costumes." When he nodded but didn't say anything you raised your brows. "Any ideas?"
"Umm... Matching costumes." He muttered, scratching his head. "Like- sun and moon?"
"Sun and moon?" You repeated, and the image of you wearing round costumes making you grimace a little. The smallest smile tugged on his lips as his eyes examined your expression. "Cause you're my sunshine."
Even though it was cheesy as hell, it was worth seeing the shocked look on your face that melted into an embarrassed, cute smile, he thought.
"Okay," you muttered, hiding your flushed face from him. "I added that to the list."
"I can't think of anything, let's look at Pinterest." You stood up and laid on the bed, and it didn't take long for him to follow you. He laid right next to you, arms wrapping around you and his head dropping to your shoulder, his two-colored eyes on your phone screen, looking at your Pinterest feed that was full of costume ideas.
"That looks nice." He pointed at the angel-devil costumed couple. He loved to see how your lip rolled in, nose crinkling with thought. "I thought it was really nice, too. Added to the list, but let's keep looking- OH MY GOD, SHOU!" You suddenly exclaimed with the idea that suddenly popped into your head, excitedly pulling yourself up into a sitting position, making his arms that were around you to fall back on the bed.
"I have the best costume idea for you!" You told him, and even though he had no idea what it was that got you so excited, he couldn't stop smiling either.
"How about- How about going as Zuko?!" He stood silent for a few seconds, his brows furrowing slightly in thought. "Zuko? I'm not sure if I can pull it off, though."
Your eyes widened in disbelief. "Shouto, you guys are practically the same people. It's one of the many reasons I agreed to date you, you know." You teased, but you should have known better.
"It is?" He asked, his hand going to his scar almost immediately. His lips turned down into a frown, he looked so hurt it made your heart ache. "B-baby, I was just kidding." You told him and got closer to him, but frowned when he pulled away.
"Shou?" You called out, cupping the scarred side of his face and leaned in to press a soft kiss on his cheek when his frown didn't go away. His eyes were avoiding yours, the feeling of him hurt making your heart ache, "Baby, I really didn't mean it!" You repeated, wrapping your arms around his neck and pressing one more kiss to his cheek.
You searched for his eyes, and even though his frown wasn't gone, your eyes met his two-colored eyes that were bright with a mischievous glint.
"I think I'm gonna need more than that." He muttered, the frown turning to a smirk, and his face leaned forward, reaching for your lips. You gasped, finally understanding he was teasing you the whole time.
"Shouto," You protested. "I really thought I hurt you!"
"Ah, but you did." He told you, the smirk only growing when he felt your irritated gaze. "You broke my heart." His words caused you to narrow your eyes, and you frowned.
"You will pay for that, you know." You told him, and just as his lips ghosted on yours, you pulled back with a playful smile. His smile dropped almost instantly when he couldn't kiss you, a pout forming on his lips.
"What do you think about the Zuko costume?" You asked, ignoring the pout of your needy boyfriend. His eyes stared at you for a few seconds, probably expecting you to finally kiss him, but when you didn't he sighed.
"Let's try it." He answered, and you squealed with excitement. "Okay, let's do his best lines. Say- 'I'm never happy.' But with a frown, 'kay?"
His brows furrowed slightly, but he obliged anyway. "Like this?" He asked with a small smile after doing the part flawlessly but pouted when he noticed you weren't even looking at him, but instead looking at your phone screen and hiding your face from him.
His brows furrowed when he couldn't meet your eyes. "Did I do it- wait, are you blushing?" His blunt question didn't help either. "I'm not- I'm not blushing! Just keep doing it." You protested. "Can you say, 'The scar is not on the wrong side!'' He was about to do it when you stopped him, and he noticed how the fangirl in you suddenly took control.
"No, no, actually, can you say 'Hello, Zuko here.' Oh, and- and-" He raised his brows when you suddenly stopped talking -you were choking on your words-, now visibly blushing.
"And?" He pressed, amused by the deer caught in the headlights look you were giving him.
"Could you say... Umm... could you say 'You're so beautiful when you hate the world'?" Your voice was so low that Shouto was sure he couldn't have heard you if he wasn't listening very closely.
"You're so beautiful when you hate the world." He repeated in a low voice that sent goosebumps down your spine. Your eyes widened, feeling like your heart was going to stop in any second.
"Oh my god, Shou." You gulped, hiding your face in his neck since you could feel your cheeks burning, and you just couldn't face him. "I'm starting to think that you weren't joking when you told me you were dating me because I'm so similar to Zuko." He teased with a laugh.
"Don't tease me!" You protested, "Zuko is my first crush."
"That's rough, buddy." He muttered in your hair, just for the sake of hearing you squirming like this.
"I say no to you going as Zuko." You muttered, still hiding your face in his chest.
âŞď¸âŞď¸âŞď¸
"Are you sure you don't want me to go as Zuko?" He asked, apparently never going to stop teasing you about it. Just replaying the memory in your head caused your cheeks to burn, and he was well aware of that, too.
You had finally agreed on the devil-angel costume. As cliche as it was, it was still a really cute idea. Shouto had worn a simple black shirt and a burgundy jacket, and no matter how simple he was wearing, he still looked too handsome. He had plastic red devil horns located between his different colored messy locks, and he held a long, red trident. You shuddered as his eyes roamed over your body, eyes darkening a shade.
"You know, maybe you should wear this more often." He whispered as you walked towards the party. "What, this?" You raised your brows. You hadn't worn anything special either, just a white summer dress -you would have frozen to death if it wasn't for your boyfriends really practical quirk- and angel wings you had found for 5 dollars.
"Y-yeah." He muttered, turning his face away from you. Huh, you thought, look how the tables have turned. "You like my dress, baby?" You asked, and he bit his lip nervously, looking away.
"It looks nice." He fixed his horns and cleared his throat, well aware of how you stopped mid-track and how your face was getting closer to his inch by inch. "Yeah?" You whispered, and just as he was about to kiss you-
"Oh, get a room, you two!" You heard someone call out, making you jump in your place and ruining the moment. It was Sero wearing a spiderman costume, and Mina- she wore an oddly realistic Sailor Moon costume- and was snickering right behind the Spiderman.
"You look devilishly handsome, Todo-kun." She told him, making you roll your eyes.
"Where are the others?" You asked, and she pointed to the room that opened to the living room. "They already started. I can't tell you how hard it was to convince Bakugou to wear something other than his hero costume. He told us he was coming as the future number one hero." She rolled her eyes.
"What did he wear instead?" You asked as you opened the door, but your question was inaudible because of the banging music and chattering that left you dumbfounded for a second or so. The room smelled heavy, and the low lighting took a second for you to get used to it. There were pumpkins everywhere, toilet papers, ghosts, and fake spiders hung from the ceiling.
"Did Momo do all this?" You asked, amazed. "Yeah," Mina answered, shouting. "She's right there." She pointed at the couch that had a Shego from Kim possible, and she looked exhausted. "Oh, poor Momo, she did all the work." You muttered, but before you could go near her and thank her, a wild Pikachu appeared.
"Damn, Y/N, you look godsent!" Kaminari exclaimed when he saw you, his eyes widening, cheeks red with what you suspected to be the effects of alcohol. "What's with everyone and their bad puns today?" You muttered as you felt Shouto's arms pulling you a little closer to him. This caused you to send a quick glance at him, only to find him glaring at Kaminari. The Pikachu, who was oblivious to the cold glare he was receiving from your boyfriend, had two glasses in his hands -the glasses looked like pumpkins, and you noted in your head to go and thank Momo- "Here, drinks for the couple!" Kaminari exclaimed, slipping the cups into your hands, his wide grin causing your eyes to narrow in suspicion.
"What's in it?"
"Eh, don't worry about it and just- finish it in one go!" He told you, tapping your shoulder in a comforting concerning way. You only needed one sniff to know what it was, the strong alcohol scent causing you to grimace.
"Yeah, no." You answered, giving back the cups, which he gladly accepted. "Well then, that just means more alcohol for me!" He cheered, chugging both of the cups. Probably already forgot your existence, he walked towards the small crowd that was dancing, jamming to the music and grinning stupidly.
There was a huge pumpkin in the middle of the room, smoke coming out of it's carved eyes and mouth. People were dancing thoughtlessly around it, making it look like some twisted ritual.
Your eyes found the Sailor Moon that was dancing with Count Dracula -Tokoyami- and Spiderman, who was shooting web all around the place, the sight making you giggle.
You glanced back at your boyfriend, surprised to find him looking at you too, a soft smile on his lips. He lifted his hand without letting go of yours and pressed his lips softly on it, and he miraculously heard your little squeal of shock, despite the loud music that was shaking the decorations.
"Do you want to dance?" He muttered in your ear, leaning forward slightly and the familiar scent radiating from him making you sigh happily. "Yeah." You answered, letting him pull you to the middle of the room. His hand holding yours strongly, pulling you through the crowd, you finally found a place you could dance comfortably.
It was then when the loud music changed, a soft one replacing it instead. The sudden change caused you to look at the DJ -Shoji was supposed to be the Dj, but you locked eyes with a proud looking Ochako, instead. You noticed Shoji standing right next to her, a baffled look on his face- You sent a grateful look her way, and she answered with a bright smile.
"The song changed." Shouto commented, making you giggle.
He pulled you by your hand, causing you to lose your balance and fall towards him, he had a rare smug smile as one of his arms wrapped your waist and pulled you even closer to him.
"Gotta be careful." He muttered, his lips so close to your ear, it made you shiver, and you were sure by the smug smile that was slowly turning into a grin, that he could feel it, too.
"I'm falling for you, Shou." You teased, not expecting his cheeks to tinge pink. He leaned in, and you knew he was going to kiss you by the familiar look that was in his eyes. You had no complaints either, slightly moving on your tippy-toes, you reached towards him.
"I see the lovers are having fun." You heard someone say, the sound causing you to move away from your boyfriend, noting the way his eyes glaring coldly at the intruder. "You know, as a citizen of the most romantic city on earth, I can tell you that-"
"Go away." Shouto told the attention freak who had an emperor costume -Aoyama- without even letting him finish his sentence.
"But I was just telling you-"
"No." Shouto interrupted once again, not letting him finish his sentence. "Can you- can we talk later, Aoyama-Kun?" You told him when he looked like he was about to cry. "You see, we're dancing, and I don't think Shouto's in the mood to have a conversation."
"I'd love to listen to your adventures, though. Maybe you could tell all about it tomorrow?" You added to at least boost his ego a bit. He tried to look uninterested, but Aoyama would've died right then and there. "Yeah, if I have time, of course." He answered, fixing the plastic crown that was on his head and walked away to find a victim worthy of his time.
"Nice, see you later!" You called out and turned back to your grumpy boyfriend.
"Rude." You told him with a teasing poke to his cheek. "He was the one interrupting us. I just told him to go away." He defended himself. "You broke his heart. There's a difference!"
"He should've gone away the first time I told him. I would've talked to him if I wanted to, so why does he need to bother us?" He muttered, well aware the moment was -the second time tonight- ruined. You sighed when more people came your way, making small talk with you, more like Shouto telling them to kindly go away and you fixing the broken hearts. You loved them all, but the heavy air in the room, the smell of alcohol, sweat, perfumes, and many other things, the crowd and the people, all started to be a little too much for you. Though, you still did your best to hide it.
"Let's go." You heard Shouto's soft voice, a whisper that was so close to your ear, it made you shiver. Ignoring the group of people that were trying to talk with you two, he started leading you in a direction, and although you weren't sure where exactly, you trusted him fully and followed him.
You noticed the heavy, suffocating air had started to fade, and as you followed your boyfriend, the air had started to be at least a bit more breathable. You finally saw where he was taking you to, and you couldn't suppress your smile at how well he knew you.
"How did you know?" You asked him, only a meter between you and the balcony that opened to the fresh air and the slightly chilly night.
You just needed a second from all this music, the overly excited and drunk people, and the crowd altogether. And the fact that he had noticed this even before you yourself had just made you want to pull him into a kiss. And judging by the way he was looking at you, you weren't the only one.
"I think I-" He started to talk, but before he could even finish what he was saying, someone broke in between you. Again. "Oh- shit- sorry." A drunk Kirishima sent you both an apologetic grin and tried to find his balance. Shouto held him by his arm and steadied him, not even trying to hide how annoyed he was.
Kirishima's hair had red and orange streaks in it, his face also painted in various shades of red. "Hey, Kiri." You muttered, deciding that the balcony had to wait a while. "And, what are you supposed to be?" You asked him, trying to understand just how drunk he was.
"Oh, you can't tell?! I'm Calcifer, and that's my Howl!" He roared into your ear, pulling his arm free from Shouto, losing his balance once again.
You looked at where he was pointing, only to find the said ashy blonde sulking in the corner of the room, his hair still crazy as ever, though you had to admit the Howl costume looked really good on him.
You must've looked a little too long since you noticed how your boyfriend started to move once again, pulling you out to the balcony before anyone could stop him once again.
The fresh, cold air hit both your faces, making you sigh happily. It was times like this you noticed how nice it was to be able to breathe. There were only one or two people out in the balcony with you, most out here to smoke.
"Finally." He breathed, probably not even aware of the other people out there with you. He still hadn't let go of your hand, his thumb caressing your hand slightly, the small act of affection making your heart go feral.
Expecting him to pull you closer to him, you glanced his way when he didn't do anything, only to find his lips turned down in a frown. "Baby?" You asked. "Is there something wrong?"
"You seemed to like the Howl costume quite a lot." He mumbled under his breath, the tone, and the way he said it making you giggle. He was jealous. He saw the smile on your lips and pouted even more.
"I like you much much better."
"Of course, I'm the one who looks like Zuko, after all." He answered grumpily, but you noticed how his frown had melted into a soft smile, his hands now playing with the ruffles of your wings.
"I love you, Y/N." He whispered, his hands moving up from your wings to your cheek. His face getting closer to yours inch by inch, your hand automatically found it's way to his nape, unconsciously pulling him towards you.
"I love you, too, Shou."
As his warm lips touched yours, you felt so content and safe between his arms, you couldn't help but think that this was the best Halloween you ever had.

i'm out of my head and i know that you're scared (because hearts get broken)
chapters: 19/? (chapter one is a prelude from my love square fluff series and is included) words: 51,441 relationships: adrien agreste/marinette dupain-cheng, alya cesaire/nino lahiffe  tags: Alternate Universe - No Kwamis, Chatting & Messaging, Long-Distance Friendship, Identity Reveal, Slow Burn, Influencers, Aged-Up Character(s), Human Kwamis, Other Additional Tags to Be Added, Lila Shakes Things Up summary: ren from ren and stimpy: think its the opposite u furry lookin ass
right chat: Rena, nooo!!
ren from ren and stimpy: rena yes
or, Adrien is a streamer on top of his modeling job, with the help of his long-distance friends Ladybug, Carapace, and Rena Rouge. Shenanigans ensue, and the masks theyâve hidden behind for years begins to break.
âYouâre telling me that some bitchââ
Nino sputters out a mildly horrified laugh. âAlya!â
A strand of hair is tucked behind her ear by said snapback-clad boy and she huffs loudly. âWhat, Nino? Itâs not as if Iâm wrong. As I was saying before you rudely interrupted me, she stole my identity?!â
A strand of hair is tucked behind her ear by said snapback-clad boy and she huffs loudly. âWhat, Nino? Itâs not as if Iâm wrong. As I was saying before you rudely interrupted me, she stole my identity?!â
âYeah, we only realized she wasnât you when the two of you returned from your trip and messaged us,â Adrien supplies helplessly, shifting to tuck a leg under him.Â
Alya gives both him and Marinette the stink eye, though Adrienâs sure itâs just a test if he knows her well enough. âHow could you ever think someone like that was me?âÂ
âTo be fair, Als,â Marinette starts off, voice gentle as she scooches closer to Adrien to lean against his arm. âWe didnât really get to talk to her. I tried messaging her on Discord and on Twitch, but she kept claiming she was busy anytime I reached out. I figured you were just upset over the breakup originally and needed your space, you know? I didnât want to push it.âÂ
The redheadâs harsh exterior fades, and theyâre left with a sad one instead. âYeah, itâs just bizarre that sheâd even want my account? Is she that obsessed with sunshine over here?âÂ
âHey! Donât say that.â Adrienâs cheeks flush a deep shade of red, which has Marinette pinching them. He grabs her hands and huffs. âHey to you too!âÂ
Marinetteâs laughter is contagious. âHey, whatâs up?âÂ
Alya raises an eyebrow in Marinetteâs direction and leans in to whisper into her ear. Whatever Alya says has Marinetteâs cheeks burning a bright shade of pink that travels to her neck and parts of her shoulders. She quickly removes her hands from Adrienâs, yet stays tucked against his side.
Both of them blinking over in Adrienâs direction has him believing it had something to do with him.Â
âWhatever the case may be,â Adrien begins, flicking his hair out of his eyes. Heâs not thinking about those last few seconds. Nope. âWe need to be smart about this, RenâAlya. She has your account right now and has all of our subscribers like putty in her hands.âÂ
âAdrienâs right. If we go about this the wrong way, they might think weâre lying, and we do not want for that to happen,â Nino chimes in, resting a reassuring hand on Alyaâs shoulder as she begins to close in on herself.Â
âItâs weird seeing you be reasonable,â Marinette comments idly, her hair splaying out over Adrienâs arm and shoulder.Â
Nino hums. âOnly when itâs needed.âÂ
âThatâs a good way to live.âÂ
âYeah, I try.â Nino flips his non-existent long hair over his shoulder.Â
âSo what do we do?â Alyaâs voice is soft, nowhere near as confident as the girl they know.Â
Marinette sends her a reassuring smile. âMax is working on getting the account back as we speak. Going through the conventional means wonât work, but if anyone can do it, itâs Max.â
âHe said heâd call once he has the account back, so instead of sitting around all day like plebs, Iâve planned us a little adventure.â Ninoâs lips curve into a smirk that excites Adrien. âGet dressed, lads and ladettes. Weâve places to be, things to see!âÂ
âDo you have any idea what heâs got planned?â Marinette asks both Adrien and Alya as Nino disappears into the guest room to supposedly finish getting ready.Â
A light breeze travels in through the screen door of the balcony. Itâs chillier than itâs been the last few days, though not nearly as cold as Paris is during this time of year. Birds still flock regularly on Marinetteâs balcony, a few residing today with the leftovers of what sheâd given them earlier.Â
Adrien loves it here.Â
(Marinette definitely isnât the main reason, no. He wouldnât admit it to himself if he was paid to.)Â
âNo idea,â Alya replies with a shrug, a far-off look in her eye. âIâm going to go get dressed.â As soon as the look had appeared, it vanished, and she follows Nino to change.Â
âWe have to keep an eye on her,â Marinette whispers, a bit too close to constitute a reasonable amount of personal space, but Adrien isnât complaining. âI donât like seeing her like this.âÂ
His heart warms at how caring she is. âYouâre too nice, Bug. Sheâll be okay, but weâll be there for her if she needs us, okay?âÂ
He hopes his reassurance is enough to quell her worries.Â
It does seem to be enough, and a huge smile breaks out on her face. âThanks, Adrien. Youâre the best.â She leaves him with a quick, slightly wet kiss on the cheek and scurries out of the room with a giggle, much to Adrienâs amusement.Â
He raises his eyebrows with a smirk, shaking his head fondly. If thatâs how she wants to play, then so be it.Â
Game on.

Adrienâs been ready for a bit, but he doesnât mind waiting.Â
He decided on wearing a pair of black jeans instead of shorts, just in case it rains while theyâre out, and a black sweater with a thick jean jacket. His hair is a dark brown shade, still lightening at a slow rate, though he doesnât mind it much at this shade.Â
He wouldnât dye it again to match, but heâll let it fade as heâs enjoying the brunet life.
Marinetteâs bedroom door squeaks open and she appears through the door, dressed and ready to go.Â
And wow. No one should look that good, and she pulls it off so easily.Â
Her bangs frame her face like curtains, her hair just past shoulder length from being straightened. Her bright blue eyes blink amusedly at him, lips arching into a smile.
The only makeup he spots is on her lips, a lip gloss that makes her lips look super kissable. âProblem, Agreste?âÂ
Laughter bubbles out of his lips, and he averts his eyes. âNone, Dupain-Cheng. Just admiring your beauty, is all.â Lying wonât help his cause, so he might as well be honest.Â
She rolls her eyes, hard enough to hurt, yet her cheeks give her away. âSure, whatever you say!âÂ
His eyes flash over her attire. While sheâs not dressed up by any means, the outfit she chose suits her so well.Â
Wait. Is she trying to kill him?
With the impending rain and whether theyâll end up caught in the crossfire, sheâs chosen a black baggy sweater, denim jeans with large holes around the knees with fishnet stockings underneath, and black old-skool vans.Â
And to top it off, sheâs wearing his merch. His Chat Noir sweater thatâs completely black, with white lettering in the center that says, âIâm the Chatâs meowâ. He hadnât noticed at first, been too preoccupied with, er, other thingsâher lipsâand heâd lie if he said his face didnât get slightly hot at seeing her in person in his merch.Â
âI thought you only bought the sweatpants, Bug?â He asks offhandedly, eyes averting from her for a second time.Â
(He has no idea the nickname brings another bout of red to her cheeks.)
âShut up or I will take it off right nowââÂ
âOh, please dââ
Sheâs in front of him in a second, her hand firmly covering his mouth with a menacing look in her eyes. âAdrien Agreste, if you continue with that sentence, I will murder you and I wonât tell anyone where I hid your bodyââ
Adrien bursts out laughing the best he can, and it sounds so bizarre with her hand muffling it. His own hand finds her wrist and wraps around it, gently prying it away from his face. âBug, please, youâre going to kill me!â
âYouâre not wrong about that,â she affirms with her eyes narrowed. She allows him to keep hold of her wrist.
âI was kidding,â he murmurs, eyes locking with hers as he brings her wrist to his lips and presses a light kiss to her skin. With how close she is, he can feel her breath hitch, so he sends her his best smile. âI would never want to make you uncomfortable.âÂ
Marinetteâs head tilts to the side, face softening. Her free hand finds his cheeks and she squeezes them gently. âYouâve never made me uncomfortable before, and you havenât now. I was kidding as well.âÂ
His eyes brighten. âOh, so that means youââ
âYouâre absolutely hopeless!â Her forehead drops to his shoulder as she whines loudly.Â
âThere, there,â he says, hand wrapping around her to pat her back. âYouâll be okay, Bug, donât worry. Iâve got you.âÂ
Sheâs warm, so warm against him that his jacket feels stifling, and he tugs her closer, enjoyingâsavoring this moment with her. He doesnât have many days left in Nice, and he wants to cherish every second he can.Â
There goes his heart again, pitter-pattering away, following hers like a lost puppy.Â
If only she knew.

I gave you up
Steve Harrington x Reader. Billy Hargrove x Reader
Summary: For @yessii-i: Steve and Reader have been best friends for years. She confesses her feelings, he doesnât reciprocate, until he sees her with someone. Jealous!Steve. Based on Cruel to Care by Leon.
Warnings: Angsty feelings. Sexy times. Swearing.
Notes: I hope this is what you were expecting! I had some fun. The first part takes place during the beginning of season 2 and the second part takes place afterward.Â
Three years. Three fucking years and all she had done with her master plan was tell Nancy about her predicament.Â
âJust tell him how you feelâ She offered, âI mean, whatâs the worst he could do?â
Y/N threw a pillow at the younger teen, âHe could reject me and our friendship could be ruined forever.â
Nancy flipped around, staring at the girl who had recently confessed her love for her current boyfriend. âLook, Iâm planning on breaking up with him tomorrow anyway, so maybe you could yâknow, help him move on?â
Y/N leaned forward on the bed of Nancyâs room, facing the vanity her friend was currently stationed at. âYou really think he would take me on?â
Nancy turned around, the finishing touches on her costume finished. âFirst of all, I hate that amazing wordplay you just used, you know how I feel about that song,â
Y/N smiled at the girlâs irritation.Â
âAnd secondâ Nancy continued, âOf course he will. Heâd be a fool not to.â
The two girls embraced before hearing the honk from Steveâs car, racing down the stairs to notify Mrs. Wheeler of their location.Â
âEvening ladiesâ Steve called from the driverâs seat, sunglasses covering his eyes. No doubt scanning Nancyâs body from behind the black shades.Â
âKeep it in your pants Harringtonâ Y/N sassed, hiding the butterflies that fluttered whenever Steve was around. She moved into the back, letting Nancy take shotgun for one more day.Â
âYou guys ready to have some fun?â He asked, his smile sending her heart soaring as her chest swelled.Â
âHell yeah, we areâ Y/N shot back, slapping her hand on his in a high five.Â
The party was one of the more wilder ones, and that was in part due to the appearance of a brand new kid named Billy and his newly acquired friends. Even if she ignored the jealously that was slithering from her core to her throat as Nancy and Steve danced the night away, the alcohol helped.Â
Y/Nâs stomach warmed, and she could feel the spiked juice working its way up to her brain, electrifying her nerves, sending pulses of adrenaline through her, until she finally danced her way over to Steve, ready to follow Nancyâs advice. Ready to finally tell Steve about the feelings sheâs been harboring since they had been little kids together.Â
She found him by the bathroom, the alcohol preventing her from noticing the distressed look on his face, or the tears that had recently escaped.Â
âY/Nâ He wiped his face, âThank god youâre here, I need your advice--â
âJust shut up for a moment please?â Y/N cut off, shocked by her own aggressive behavior the same way Steve was. He lurched back at the comment, following her instructions. âIâve been meaning to tell you something for three years, and now I think I finally have the courage to do it so please, donât interrupt me.â
Her best friend nodded, the hurt look in his eyes staying longer than he wanted it to.Â
âWeâve been through so much together and I wouldnât trade those experiences for anythingâ she began to ramble, ignoring Steveâs attempt to interject. âBut I would be lying if I said I never thought about pursuing anything more. I mean itâs not just your hair, though it is a beautiful thing of godâs creation, but itâs your amazing way youâve been able to comfort me, Itâs the board games we played when we were little, Itâs everything you do really.â
âY/N this isnât really a good time--â
âI guess, what I'm really trying to say, Steve Harrington,â Y/N breathed, knowing sheâll remember every bit of this in the morning, âIs that I am in love with you. In every possible way.â
The silence between them was deafening. Even as the music swirled through her ears, all she could focus on was the lack of words coming from Steveâs mouth.Â
âSteve?â Y/N asked, voice breaking, âCould you please say something?â
âY/N I--â Steve stammered, running his hand through his hair. âI, uh, I donât know how to tell you this--â
Y/N bit her cheek. He didnât feel the same way. Of course, he didnât. She didnât need to hear it to know. âYou don't have to say anythingâÂ
She gave one last longing look at the man she loved, almost tasting the apology he was going to stutter out. âI understandâ Y/N turned away from her best friend, ignoring his reaching hands and stammering apologies as he didnât even try to follow her out. She ignored the tears painting her face with the makeup Nancy had put on her face earlier, she ignored the pain spreading in her chest as she realized what she had just done.
She had ruined her relationship with her best friend. The person who had helped patch up her knee when she scraped it biking, the person who had held her when her father had left. The person who bought her ice cream and sang to her favorite songs whenever she was feeling sad.Â
That person was out of her life forever.
What the hell was she going to do without him?Â
She shouldnât be missing him. She should be cursing his name. Wishing he was dead. She should be burning every piece of memorabilia the two had collected over the years. She should be punching pillows, envisioning his face on them. She should be letting go. She should hate him.Â
But she knew she couldnât.Â
âThis seat taken?âÂ
Y/N looked up from the curb to see the curly mane of Billy Hargrove, his bright blue eyes and smirk enchanting the entire high school in one night.Â
âNo,â she said, unsure why, âGo ahead.â
All she wanted to do was stare straight ahead. Wiping the tears from her face, she ignored the heat of Billy beside her. How his smile seemed so reminiscent of Steveâs. How he didnât seem to want to leave after seeing her break down.
âSo uh, whatâs got you sitting out here instead of joining the party?â Billy asked, offering a cigarette. Y/N took it, lighting it with the lighter Steve had given her for her birthday, the lighter she had kept in her pocket for the past year.Â
âI, uh, told someone how I feltâ Y/N admitted, taking a drag. âAnd let me guessâ Billy faced her, âHe didnât feel the same way.â
Y/N nodded her head, biting her lip in frustration while Billy continued to talk.Â
âI donât see why I mean youâre gorgeous for startersâ
She chuckled at his compliment, blood rushing to her cheeks.Â
Billy smiled at the sad girl, cigarette still between his teeth. âWow, and your laugh is just adorable. How the hell did this guy turn you down?â
Y/N shrugged, unsure why she suddenly felt so comfortable around this stranger, âWrong time I guess.â
âYeah, timing can be a bitch huh?â
Y/N embraced the silence. It wasn't awkward like earlier. It felt natural. It felt...good. Her stomach fluttered when he met her gaze again, her lips perking up slightly.Â
âYou need a ride home?â Billy asked, gesturing to a blue car a bit down the line.
Y/N nodded, grasping the hand Billy had offered her. The two bonded further on the ride home, discussing favorite movies, awful siblings, and how much high school sucked. She learned that Billy loved to surf, and how much he missed California. By the time Billy was dropping her off, she didnât want the ride to end.Â
He reminded her of Steve. How things used to be before he started dating Nancy and pulling further and further away.Â
She didnât know why she did it. Maybe because he was the closest sheâd get to Steve. Maybe she still had alcohol in her system.Â
All she knew was that her lips were on Billyâs, begging him for more. Trading breaths like it was second nature. He felt so natural. He felt new. He felt good.Â
âMaybe take me on a date first huh L/N?â BIlly joked before she dug back in, her hands scraping his curls upward, while his hands found her waist, pulling her over the cupholders and into the driverâs seat. His hands scraped up her back, tossing her flimsy shirt aside before crashing his lips on hers once again.
***
He had bought flowers. Fucking flowers. Roses were romantic right? That said âhey i realized I love you and want to say I'm sorry at the same timeâ. Right? He knocked on the door, nerves spiking in his chest as he waited for the wooden door from his fondest memories to open.Â
âHarringtonâ The grating voice of his nightmares answered. âWhat brings you here?â Hargroveâs eyes trailed down to the roses in his hand, his chewing gum smacking obnoxiously.Â
âI should be asking you the same question Hargroveâ Steve crossed his arms, trying to seem as intimidating as possible.Â
âWell, I was invited here by Y/N.â Hargrove continued, a smirk forming on his face. âYâknow She was pretty distraught that night of the party.â
The pain in Steveâs chest returned as he remembered the awful look she had worn the rest of the night. The look he had caused. The look that had somehow disappeared whenever this douchebag was around. Rage rose.
âLook, can I just see her?â Steve asked, unsure why he felt he had to.Â
Hargrove blocked the door once again. âI think it was you that turned that sexy thing down Harrington. And as Y/Nâs boyfriend, I donât think I can tolerate that.â
Steve almost got whiplash at his statement. âI-Iâm sorry, Boyfriend?â
Irritation sprung up in his stomach, slithering through his body until it fed every dark impulse in him. He wanted to punch the smirk right off of Hargroveâs stupid face. He wanted to tackle him to the ground, choking him all the while screaming about how Y/N deserves better than the creep he is.Â
âWhatâs the matter, Harrington?â Hargrove asked, the smirk growing wider. âUpset you missed your chance to hit that?â He leaned closer until he was next to his ear. âWell let me tell you, she;s really not that great. But oh boy, does she scream like the virgin she is-- Sorry, was.â
The irritation turned to rage, spilling out over him as Steve smashed Billyâs head against the door frame. He had no right to talk about Y/N like that. He had no right to ever put his hands on her body like that.Â
Hargrove pulled the flowers from his hand, wiping the blood from his lip. âThanks for the flowers, dickheadâ
The door shut in his face.Â
He stormed down the driveway, anger bubbling in his chest, all while the dull pain remained.Â
âSteve!â her musical voice called, running after him. He had to hold his breath at the sight. Her messy hair and sweatpants sending butterflies flying. âWait, I uh, I want to apologize for the party.â âHargrove?â Steve growled, surprised at the malice in his voice. âReally? All the people in the world and you choose him?â
Y/N stepped back, narrowing her eyes at her friend. âWhat the hell is that supposed to mean?â
âIt means that you say you're in love with me one night, and then you decide to sneak off with him instead?â
Y/N huffed incredulously, âYou made it very clear that you wanted nothing to do with me after that night.â
âYou didn't even give me a chance to say anythingâ He protested, knowing full well it wasnât a valid excuse.Â
âI didnât need to!â Y/N defended, âYou could've followed me. You couldâve talked to me at school. You couldâve done a million other things than ignore me while you ran off to repair your relationship with Nancy!â
He could hear her voice break. His chest exploded at the sound. Sending a shot of pain through him. âI wasnât repairing my relationship with Nancyâ
Y/N scoffed, âAnd Iâm just supposed to believe that? Why were you hanging out with her and her brother? Why didnât you talk to me? Why were you hanging out with her brotherâs friends?â He struggled to explain the situation without bringing up mind flayers and aliens from another dimension. âI was...babysitting.â âBabysitting?â Y/Nâs eyebrow dropped skeptically. âSteve Harrington, King of Highschool, Babysitter?â Steve shrugged, âYeah, I mean, their families pay well.â
Y/N scoffed. Biting her lip in frustration. The lips that he wanted so badly to touch. âI canât believe this. You know, I never lied Steve. In all our years of knowing each other, I never lied to you.â
She began to walk away and he knew this time he had to reassure her. âYou want the truth?â He began to follow her back up the driveway. âYou want the truth Y/N?â âYES!â She screamed, hair whipping.Â
âThe truth is, Iâm fucking in love with you Y/N!â Steve confessed, nearly out of breath, âIn every possible way and it kills me to see you with Hargrove at lunch. It kills me to see you shut me out. It kills me to ignore you and lie to you about the true circumstances of my life because I donât even really know what the hell is going on!âÂ
His breathing increased, continuing, âThe only thing Iâve ever been sure about is how I feel about you and nowâŚâ Steve ran his hands through his hair, trailing off.Â
Y/N stood there, her mouth wide open at the revelation. Shock running through her system.Â
âYouâre the only constant in my fucked up life,â Steve whispered, hands on his hips. âI just--I canât lose you too. Please.âÂ
He raised his eyes to meet her gaze, the girl he loved inching further and further away from him.Â
âGo home Steveâ Y/N whispered, rubbing her arm nervously.Â
âY/N please--â âJust...Goâ Y/N breathed, a tear gathering in her eye, âPlease.â
All Steve did was stand there, watching as his best friend retreated back inside her house. He could deal with losing Nancy. But Y/N? He didnât know how to come back from that.Â
He thought about knocking once again. About telling her of Hargroveâs homicidal tendencies.Â
Instead, he simply stuffed his hands in his pockets and wandered down the street, with nothing but the sweet memories of their friendship to keep him warm in the chilly December weather.
Oof. That hurted. Please like and reblog and feel free to send in requests!

âWe need a doctor!â you yelled as you entered the nearest hospital. Sam and Dean carried your dad inside as your heart pounded in anticipation. The nurse who heard came rushing over to help to see what the problem was.
âWhat happened?â
âHe was stabbed!â
âCan we get a gurney?â she yelled for one as two male nurses brought one.
âDaddy, youâre going to be okay,â you let the tears fall as he was placed gently on the gurney. He looked at you as they wheeled him away, and you went to follow him but the female nurse stopped you.
âJust wait here.â
âWe canât just leave him! Heâs my dad!â you yelled at her.
âJust don't move. I've got questions,â she said once she left.
âY/N, we got to go,â Dean urged.
âNo! No! I canât leave him!â your tears rolled down your cheeks.
âThe demons heard where the sword is. We got to get to it before they do, if we're not too late already. Heâs in good hands now. Weâll be back in no time,â he said as he grabbed your hand. He forced you out of the hospital and into the car so that they can rush to New York to one of Johnâs lockup storages.
As soon as Dean arrived at the lockup, you only grabbed your gun from the trunk since you wonât be needing anything else. Sam and Dean grabbed their shotguns with rock salt since that is the only thing to actually hurt a demon.
Entering the lockup, the first thing you saw was bodies on the floor. Demons if you were going to guess. There were about 4 demons dead on the ground. No other person in sight to tell you who had done it. Entering the lockup, you looked around to try and figure out if the culprit was still inside.
âI see you told the demons where the sword is,â Zachariah said from behind you with two angel escorts.
âOh, thank god. The angels are here,â Dean said sarcastically.
âAnd to think... they could have grabbed it any time they wanted,â he said as he used his angelic powers to close the storage door. âIt was right in front of them.â
âWhat do you mean?â Sam asked.
âWe may have planted that particular piece of prophecy inside Chuck's skull, but it happened to be true. We did lose the Michael sword. We truly couldn't find it. Until now. You've just hand-delivered it to us.â
âGet to the damn point, Zachariah. I am in no mood to be fucked with right now,â you growled.
âItâs you, Dean. Youâre the Michael sword. What, you thought you could actually kill Lucifer? You simpering wad of insecurity and self-loathing? No. You're just a human, Dean. And not much of one.â
âYeah, but Iâm not,â you said as you stepped in front of Dean. âIâm a vessel, do you remember? Do you remember who for?â
âAmara does not exist. She is not real; therefore, you canât be her vessel. Whatever lies you are being told, thatâs just it. They are lies. Dean on the other hand, heâs Michaelâs weapon. Or rather his receptacle.â
âI'm a vessel?â
âYou're the vessel. Michael's vessel.â
âHow? Whyâwhy me?â
âBecause you're chosen! It's a great honor, Dean.â
âOh, yeah. Yeah, life as an angel condom. That's real fun. I think I'll pass, thanks.â
âJoking. Always joking. Well... no more jokes,â he grinned before holding up his hands in the shape of a finger guns. He pointed one at Sam and the other at you. âBang.â
A loud crunch could be heard as Sam fell to the ground with broken legs. Your spine broke and you fell to the ground once you were paralyzed. Dean looked at the two of you as you cried out in pain. Not even your magic could heal you of this.
âYou son of a bitch!â Dean yelled at Zachariah.
âKeep mouthing off, I'll break more than his legs and her spine. I am completely and utterly through screwing around. The war has begun. We don't have our general. That's bad. Now, Michael is going to take his vessel and lead the final charge against the adversary. You understand me?â
âHow many humans die in the crossfire, huh? A million? Five, ten?â
âProbably more. If Lucifer goes unchecked, you know how many die? All of them. He'll roast the planet alive.â
âThere's a reason you're telling me this instead of just nabbing me. You need my consent. Michael needs my say-so to ride around in my skin,â Dean said. Looking at Sam, you two made eye contact to the best of your ability without having the option to move your lower body. Using your arms instead, you raised yourself to your elbows to look at Dean.
âUnfortunately, yes.â
âWell, there's got to be another way.â
âThere is no other way. There must be a battle. Michael must defeat the serpent. It is written.â
âYeah, maybe. But, on the other hand... Eat me. The answer's no.â
âOkay. How about this? Your friend Bobby, Y/Nâs fatherâwe know he's gravely injured. Say yes, and we'll heal him. Say no, he'll never walk again.â
âDean donât do it,â you sighed shakily.
âNo.â
âThen how about we heal you from... stage-four stomach cancer?â he asked just as Dean doubled over in pain. He started coughing and spit blood into the palm of his hand.
âDean!â you gasped, hating the fact that you had no chance to stop this.
âNo,â Dean gasped.
âThen let's get really creative. Uh, let's see how... Sam does without his lungs. Maybe Y/Nâs brain pops and explodes.â
Sam immediately started gasping for breath since he didnât have any lungs anymore. Your brain started popping which was extremely painful. It was like one big migraine that no medicine could heal.
âDean,â you yelled as blood started pouring from your eyes. The whites started to turn red, and you doubled over and coughed up blood. âDonât do it.â
âAre we having fun yet? You're going to say yes, Dean,â Zachariah smiled.
âJust kill us.â
âKill you? Oh, no. I'm just getting started,â he grinned. A bright white light shone from the other end of the room as one of the angels died. The body fell to the floor to reveal Castiel, but you were in so much pain to even appreciate the angel. The other angel that Zachariah came with started to fight Castiel, but you couldnât focus on them.
The only thing on your mind was Dean and your dad who was all alone at the hospital. However, he did it, the angel died and now it was only Castiel and Zachariah to face off.
âHow are youââ
âAlive?â he interrupted. âThat's a good question. How did these two end up on that airplane? Another good question. 'Cause the angels didn't do it. I think we both know the answer, don't we?â
âNo. That's not possible.â
âIt scares you. Well, it should. Now, put these boys and Y/N back together and go. I won't ask twice,â he threatened. As soon as Zachariah vanished in a flutter of wings, all your pain went away. Your brain didnât hurt and your spine was fixed. Quickly standing up, you rushed to Dean to check on him and once he nodded signaling he was alright, you rushed to Castiel and gave him a hug. He didnât hug back but stood there awkwardly, waiting for you to finish.
âI thought you died,â you whispered.
âI did.â
âIâm glad youâre back,â you nodded with a smile, going back over to the brothers.
âYou three need to be more careful.â
âYeah, I'm starting to get that. Your frat brothers are bigger dicks than I thought.â
âI don't mean the angels. Lucifer is circling his vessel. And once he takes it, those hex bags won't be enough to protect you,â he said just as he placed both his hands on the brotherâs chest. They winced in pain before Castiel did the same thing to you. A burning sensation came from your ribs, and you pulled back in pain.
âWhat the hell was that?â you asked.
âAn Enochian sigil. It'll hide you from every angel in creation, including Lucifer.â
âWhat, did you just brand us with it?â
âNo. I carved it into your ribs.â
âCastiel, who brought you back to life?â you asked with a whisper. If you had to guess, it would be God, but you needed to be sure. However, the angel didnât answer and vanished before your eyes.
âDad,â you gasped, rushing out the door to hurry back to your father.
Time seemed to slow down as you rushed into the hospital. The brothers tried to keep up with you, but you needed to see your dad.
âWhere is my dad? Bobby Singer!â you asked the receptionist. Before she had a chance to answer, a nurse was calling your name from behind.
âY/N Singer? Your father is this way,â he seemed relieved in a way, but you didnât care. Leaving the brotherâs behind, you went with the nurse to a private room. As soon as you approached the door, you could hear his voice yelling at whoever was inside.
âUnlikely to walk again?! Why, you snot-nosed son of a bitch! Wait till I get out of this bed!â he yelled. The doctor fled the room just as the nurse accompanied him. Rushing into the room, you looked at him with tears in your eyes.
âI'll use my game leg and kick your fucking ass! Yeah, you better run!â your dad yelled after the doctor. âYou believe that yahoo?â
âAre you okay? I should have done something sooner,â you walked to him to try and comfort him.
âIâm fine, Y/N. Really, I am,â he sighed and placed his hand on yours in comfort.
âSo, let me ask the million-dollar question. What do we do now?â Sam asked.
âWell... We save as many as we can for as long as we can, I guess. It's bad. Whoever wins, heaven or hell, we're boned.â
âWhat if we win?â Dean asked, a bit too confident. Everyone stared at him in concern. âI'm serious. I mean, screw the angels and the demons and their crap apocalypse. Hell, they want to fight a war, they can find their own planet. This one's ours, and I say they get the hell off it. We take 'em all on. We kill the devil. Hell, we even kill Michael if we have to. But we do it our own damn selves.â
âAnd how are we supposed to do all this, genius?â your dad asked.
âI got no idea. But what I do have is a GED and a give-'em-hell attitude, and I'll figure it out.â
âYou are nine kinds of crazy, boy.â
âListen, you stay on the mend. We'll see you in a bit,â Dean patted his shoulder before leaving the room.
âSam?â he asked. Sam stopped walking but didnât say anything. âI was awake. I know what I said back there. I just want you to know that... that was the demon talking. I ain't cutting you out, boy. Not ever.â
âThanks Bobby,â Sam whispered.
âYou're welcome. I deserve a damn medal for this, but... you're welcome.â Sam left the room and you looked at your father.
âI tried to help. That demon was too strong. I tried to fight his powers,â you stuttered.
âHey, look at me,â he interrupted you. âThis is not your fault and you need to believe it. I will be fine. Iâm alive thanks to you and the boys. Iâll be okay.â
âI love you,â you said as you hugged him.
âI love you too. Now get out of here and save the damn world.â
âOkay,â you nodded with a smile before reluctantly leaving. The brothers were waiting for you outside.
âYou know, I was thinking, Deanâmaybe we could go after the Colt,â Sam said just as you joined them.
âWhy? What difference would that make?â
âWell, we could use it on Lucifer. I mean, you just said back thereââ
âI just said a bunch of crap for Bobby's benefit,â he interrupted his brother.
âDean,â you sighed.
âItâs true. I mean, I'll fight. I'll fight till the last man, but let's at least be honest. I mean, we don't stand a snowball's chance, and you know that. I mean, hell, you of all people know that,â he directed that to his brother.
âIs there something you want to say to me?â
âI tried, Sammy. I mean, I really tried. But I just can't keep pretending that everything's all right. Because it's not. And it's never going to be. You chose a demon over your own brother and look what happened.â
âI would give anythingâanythingâto take it all back,â he sighed.
âI know you would. And I know how sorry you are. I do. But, man... you were the one that I depended on the most. And you let me down in ways that I can't even... I'm justâI'm having a hard time forgiving and forgetting here. You know?â
âWhat can I do?â Sam asked.
âHonestly? Nothing.â
âDean, we have to try,â you tried.
âNo, I already tried. I just don't... I don't think that we can ever be what we were. You know? I just don't think I can trust you.â
Sam looked up at his brother in shock. He was expecting everything else but not this. Deans shook his head and walked away, back to the car.
âItâs okay Sam,â you said as you patted his shoulder in comfort. âYou still have me.â

beauty and the beast - hwang hyunjin
â⊠genre: fluff, angst
â⊠pairing: fem!reader x hyunjin
â⊠warnings: cursing and mentions of death
â⊠summary: there were tales of a prince so beautiful, so handsome that even the gods would bend to his will; he was said to live alone in a castle by the lake, rumored to have killed his parents to earn aphroditeâs blessing. you are but a poor villager who strayed too far from the path home, lost in a haunted forest - until a certain, mysterious boy rescues you.
â⊠word count: 9.4k
âFather, please stop trying to fix what is already broken.â
âY/N my dear, just about anything can be fixed if the right tools are used!â The plump, graying man chortled in a burst of usual optimism. His hands, covered in calluses from years upon years of laboring away in the tiny workshop off the back of the house, were holding a hammer and nail respectively. Back hunched over the edge of the creaking desk that was littered with tools and dust, the man aimed the head of the hammer and slammed down on the shiny silver nail, forcing it to dig into the bracket of the door he was trying to fix up - for the third time that same cold season.
Usually you would try to help your hardworking father, but ever since you had finally hit the ripe age of eighteen, he would insist that you save your âdelicateâ hands for less laboring jobs; like knitting, or perhaps sewing hats. Most of the other girls and women did the same, though there were a handful who worked more tiring jobs.
You would have given anything to be like them - to wake up early in the morning to get dressed for a long day of working at the local mill, maybe even the more populated woodworking shop in the heart of the village. Whenever you passed such a woman on the streets, you would occasionally admire how toned their muscles were, how simply powerful they looked wearing a traditional yellow or baby blue dress whilst they made their way to work.
You were not as lucky as them, though; you werenât too toned nor built due to staying indoors a majority of the time, either reading or baking to your heartâs content. Before you had turned eighteen, you would pop into the quaint workshop resting off the other side of the kitchen area, munching on a freshly baked muffin or cookie; then, you would get to work on melting materials or handing off tools to your father while he continued to work.
The day youâd turned eighteen, your father had made sure not to put you in any possible situation that involved, well, anything remotely difficult or potentially damaging. When a girl came of age in your country, it was tradition that they halt any and all activities (namely ones that would dirty their skin or crack their nails) until they married. You were, of course, now put into that circle until you got married, but truth be told you didnât plan on doing so any time soon.
That isnât to say your father was a terrible man who believed in the system, but he was more than aware of your familyâs low status in the village. After all, you still wore your late motherâs hand me downs from when she was your age, and it had been years since you had the proper luxury of being able to shop for your own clothes. You were tempted to sew or knit your own, but at the end of the day, you knew that it was better to sell the crafted dresses and skirts for a bit more money.
If you were to marry, he wanted you to be as pristine and beautiful as you always were in his eyes; this meant no hard labor and more time for you to have just about nothing at all to do some days. On such days you would either watch your father, or you would venture out into the village with a friend. Said friend would constantly point out richer looking men that the two of you came across, hinting that perhaps they might fall for you and, in turn, provide a better life for you and your father.
You found that mighty ridiculous, to say the least. âRight, just like your tools helped you fix the same exact door not even two weeks ago.â The words seemed to slip out of your mouth more naturally than your father would have liked, since he heard from around the bar that most wealthy men preferred women who were soft spoken or didnât speak their mind at all.
Not that he agreed with any of that particular nonsense, why - he preferred you just the way you were; although it did mean he was the victim of your somewhat blunt undertone more often than not.
âAye, my sweet little dove,â he hummed in a jolly tune, still pounding away at the hinges of the rickety door, âthis damned door was fixed not once, but twice before! Door be damned, Iâll be able to fix it by the time the moon rises over the castle on the hill.â
âYes, door be damned,â you said in amusement, chuckling to yourself as you turned and began to head towards the front door, tattered bag slung over your shoulder, filled to the brim with hand-made clothes made to be sold at the marketplace, âIâll be home in time to make supper, father. Have a nice day!â
âYou need to stop with the cursing, Y/N!â
But you couldnât hear him, having already shut the door behind your figure in favor of leaving the shack that you called home. Your home rested on the edge of the village, not too far out to be considered an outlier, but it was enough to convince the other villagers that you were only at the rear end of society; more so than you could have ever imagined before.
By the time you had reached the marketplace, you had heard just about every insult known to man thrown your way.
 Bitch.
 Lowlife whore.
 Forgotten trash.
Considering you had heard all of these names before, you could only hope that the minuscule brains of your harassers were able to conjure up better insults next time you came into town.
There was only one empty stall left for the taking, thankfully enough, though by the time youâd walked over you realized why no one had used it. Or rather, who had made sure no one else claimed it.
âGood morning, Jisung.â You smiled in greeting to the slightly taller boy, who grinned in a maddening joy upon seeing you set your bag of clothes onto the stall he had so diligently protected the past hour while he had waited for your arrival. âThank you, for saving this stall.â
âAh, itâs no problem at all, Y/N!â The blonde beamed in delight, âToday is Friday, and Friday is our day.â
You started to lay out a dress over the edge of the wooden stall, just under the hood of the balcony draped over with a purple linen cloth so the harsh sunlight wouldnât make the dress too hot in case someone bought it and decided to slip it on in the inn just a few feet away. âI know, I know! We might as well just open up a booth together and split the profits at this rate.â
âOne day, my dear friend; one day weâll earn enough coin to build our own shop from the ground up, then we can run it together and become filthy rich!â He insisted loudly, a soft laugh threatening to escape your lips when a couple of girls flinched at his booming voice.
âWell, Iâm afraid that I might be missing a few days of selling,â you hummed casually, catching how the blondeâs eyebrows quirked in curiosity at your words, âI am going to close my booth early today so I can go out and... look for a proper job.â
Your companion chokes on his breath, which had visibly hitched in his throat upon hearing your mini-declaration. âY/N, n-no offense, but you arenât exactly the blacksmith kind of material. And I donât think any of the other shop owners are hiring - women... sorry.â He reminded you gently, his pink lips curling into a hint of a sympathetic frown. Both of you knew that women were still looked down on in the local villages and towns, though there had been talk of a movement in the more northern sanctums of the country.
Unless you were as fit and strong as can be, it was rather difficult to find a steady job in your village as a woman. Blacksmiths were always looking for hardworking men and women to help them forge weapons for the war effort to the eastern coast, but any other establishment was focused on saving money in case said war reached far enough into the countryside to force anyone to flee; because of this, a handful of workers had been fired and many more had been rejected of work so that the owners wouldnât have to use their money on their efforts.
âIâll find someone to hire me, Ji!â You insisted, âwho knows, maybe thereâs a couple who might need a midwife, or there could even be a tailor who needs an extra hand.â Your optimism is bright and burning, which you hoped would help you get through the day ahead of you, especially considering you figured you would face a handful of rejections before you found what you sought out.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
You certainly hadnât been anticipating so many rejections, at least, not at the amount that had hit you in the face full force. Bakeries refused to even give you a chance, using excuses that were along the lines of them not needing any new workers; even if it was one that you knew was going into debt due to the lack of bakers. Any blacksmith was out of the question as well, you simply lacked the manpower to properly work a smithy or carry loads of iron bars. Why - you even tried the newspaper stand at the other end of town, but the boy working there at the time, Felix, could only offer you a sympathetic frown as he informed you that his boss couldnât afford to pay another worker.
Luck had clearly not been on your side that day, or the next day - or the following five days after that. An entire, unsatisfactory week had passed, leaving you with a semi-permanent frown gracing your chapped lips as you once again made the long track home from your stall at the town marketplace.
The moon, cut into a soft crescent, glowed dimly down onto the path of pebbles and dirt you walked upon, occasionally kicking a gray stone aside to quench your everlasting boredom. Yet another uneventful day had passed, the only payment in the depths of your bag being a matching pair of copper coins, which had been given to you by a soldier as he bought a pale yellow dress for his wife back home.
He had said that his name was Minho, that he was a soldier for the countryâs army. The raven haired man had also mentioned that his pregnant wife was practically all alone back home on the countryside, her only real company being her younger brother, a boy named Jeongin, who was already busy tending to the farm most days to ever take her out. When he had told you that she was more than likely going to give birth while he was fighting in the war, you had felt a surge of empathy rush through your veins. You offered him a lower price than you would have given to any regular customer, telling him to give it to her as a gift when he got home to his wife and baby.
Curse you for being so empathetic! A measly two copper coins would barely be enough to purchase a loaf of warm bread; you figured that you would have to make due with a bit of flour instead so you could bake the bread yourself, and then you would likely use the rest of your money to buy fresh carrots to prepare a broth...
In the midst of your brooding, you failed to notice that you had slightly strayed off the path to your home on the edge of town; in fact, the crescent shaped moon had thoroughly been blocked out by the canopy of haunting trees that stood proud and tall, how you didn't realize that you had stumbled into the blanketed forest leading towards a hillside, you would never know.
Only when a twig snapped nearby were you brought out of your hefty daze, your gaze shooting upwards from the ground to take in the sudden new scenery around you. The air had become chillier, more menacing than before when you were out in the open and exposed to the elements. Now, lanky tree roots dotted the less populated path and dense shrubbery popped out of seemingly nowhere.
Before the utter panic of being lost, or at least in a new territory where it was totally unknown to you, could settle in, a puff of cold air brushed past the side of your head. âAre you... lost?â
You nearly jump out of your skin at the voice, twisting and turning your body to feel less - vulnerable, so to speak, your chest heaving as you attempt to quickly regain your breath. The man - no, boy, now in front of you radiated a strange sort of aura, his hair as dark as the night sky and his skin as clear as any pool of water.
âW-who are you?â You manage to stutter on your words in pure nervousness, feeling all too small compared to the tall stranger a few feet away.
The boy appears to be at a loss for words, his lithe fingers twiddling with the cuffs of his oddly fancy, lavender button-up shirt. You give him a hasty once-over to size up his character while he hesitates to speak up, taking note of how his black dress pants and shiny brown shoes stood out from the familiar common rabble in the town. Putting yourself in his shoes would be an unfamiliar experience, due to your tattered, raggedy cloths, which seemed incredibly inferior to his almost noble attire.
âIâm Hyunjin, I live in - in the castle on the hill,â he finally replies to your question, his voice cracking as if he hadnât spoken in centuries, âI donât mean to intrude, but you seem a bit... lost. Itâs dangerous for anyone to be out this late in the forest, you know.â
The only forest you knew of anywhere close to town was Cupidâs Forest, said to be seething with the rage of spirits who hadnât been granted access to neither the underworld or the gates of Olympus. Since Cupid itself had originally been resurrected in the forest of spruce and pine trees, it had been dubbed of his name; but that legend was not what brought the area fame - or rather, mystery.
There was apparently a âlost princeâ who resided in a lone castle on the single hill overlooking both Cupidâs Forest and Echoâs Lake, rumored to be a monster who had sacrificed everything he had to the goddess Aphrodite just to gain her blessing-
 Oh.
âY-youâre the pr-prince,â you breathe out in a stunning realization, eyes widening all at once. You watch carefully as Hyunjinâs muscles tense under his clothes, the boy clearly troubled at how youâd addressed him.
He tried to close some of the gaping distance between your bodies, both of you tense and mildly unnerved from the odd interaction so far. âPlease, come to my castle - just for tonight,â Hyunjin pleads with you, stiffening even more than before at the chilling sound of a howl in the distance; it was not the howl of any beast he knew, rather it was the harrowing call of a spirit waking from its slumber at the presence of mortals in its forest, âif you wish to live, you must trust me, please.â
Damn it - damn it all. How could you have possibly roped yourself into such a situation?
 âLead the way.â
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Hyunjin had hastily led you to his home - his castle, for godâs sake, in record time. The second he slammed the front doors shut (which were a good eight to nine feet tall, something you didn't quite understand) both of you were subject to listening to the furious spirits pounding on the dark wood, their aged moaning and groaning akin to someone raking their nails down a chalkboard.
Even as the two of you hunch over to try and catch your breath, exhausted from the run through the periling forest, you canât help but lift your head to scan your surroundings; after all, you were still technically in the home of a complete and utter stranger - no matter how handsome or kind he appeared to be, you had done well to remind yourself of the unsettling rumors that aged with his castle, his very existence.
Bright candles burned to give flickers of light inside the cobblestone structure, some of them engraved with odd details that nearly resembled a human face - though you assumed you were imagining that aspect of the dÊcor, even if it did carry onto a particular bookshelf and an antique tea set.
In the center of his castle were two grand spiral staircases, blooming with vines and pink flowers that dwindled from the ceiling and entangled with the gold spindles that traced the outline of the white painted stairs. Craning your neck to get a better look at the dazzling staircase and the chandelier that hung above it, you spotted what looked to be a rounded, glass case of sorts at the very top of the stairs. You couldnât quite make out whatever was inside the case, though you could see the tint of red and green that mingled together in the transparent glass.
âMiss,â the owner of the looming, mysterious castle uttered softly, catching your attention. You bring yourself out of your second daze of the night to glance over to Hyunjin, curiosity bubbling through your veins. Despite the nasty rumors you had heard on more than one occasion, the so-called prince had welcomed you into his lonesome home and saved you from the spirits outside in the haunted forest, why, even his voice was softer and kinder than you expected it to be. âI can take you to one of the guest rooms for now, if you like. Iâm afraid there isnât any food prepared, since I wasn't quite expecting a guest tonight - or... ever, actually.â
Your stomach rumbled hungrily at the mention of food, or lack thereof, but you didnât feel the need to pry for a meal; not when Hyunjin had let you into his home. âThatâs alright, Iâm not too hungry anyway,â you lie easily, âbut I am awfully tired.â
âR-right... well then, follow me.â He ushers out quietly, turning his backside to you so he can lead you through his enormous castle. You silently follow behind his figure, eyes flickering all about the cobblestone walls decorated with paintings and other knick-knacks that seemed somewhat out of place - even inside a castle belonging to a prince.
Instead of hanging paintings of his family, there are portraits of wildlife creatures that were either said to be myths, or they were known to be so dangerous that no one dared to go into their lands. From the likes of a dark coated Cerberus to the golden maned lion, it seemed as if Hyunjin had a taste for collecting paintings only of menacing beasts.
There were also out-of-place items that piqued your interest, such as the silver lined mirror that radiated a desire for you to take a peek at your reflection, although you ultimately decided not to in favor of keeping a steady pace behind the boy walking ahead. All across the walls were different symbols representing doves: including a painting, a wreath hung above an archway, and a statue depicting a trio of white doves circling a fountain of sorts.
 How... strange.
So caught up in your observations of the grand castle, you hadnât even noticed that the boy had began to lead you up one of the spiral staircases; at least, not until you tripped on one of the ledges, a squeak of surprise escaping your lips as your body begins to fall forward.
But you never hit the stairs. A pair of arms catch you just in time, slowly wrapping around your back to help lift you back up on your own two feet. Breathing a bit heavily from your awkward stumble, you manage to lift your head, quickly (and unexpectedly) met the gentle brown gaze of Hyunjin.
Hands still wrapped around your waist, fingers trailing along the ragged cloths that hung over your body, the boyâs pink lips parted in question. âAre you alright?â
âI - Iâm fine, thanks to you.â You breathe out with the most minor of blushes, flustered by the immensely close proximity between your bodies. He smiles awkwardly at your thanking him, his own melanin cheeks showing a hint of red. When another few seconds pass in complete silence, both of you realize the little distance in the space between your bodies, and Hyunjin hastily lets go of your waist while you cough to break the almost perplexing sound of nothing.
Not another word is spoken in the time that he continues to lead you to one of the guest rooms in the castle, the sickly sweet silence deafening compared to the unabashed quietness echoing in the halls. Eventually you reach the end of one of the various hallways, Hyunjin opening the lone door that creaked open with a loud screech.
âSorry about t-the cobwebs and stains, like I mentioned earlier, I wasnât really expecting any sort of company.â He apologizes again, scratching the back of his neck while you step forward and take in the atmosphere of the bedroom.
Thankfully there arenât any paintings of beasts or anything of that nature, since you figured that the haunting images on the canvas would likely gift you with nightmares of being hunted by the wild animals. Nestled in the corner of the room was a bed bigger than you had ever seen - no, ever dreamt of. Pearl white sheets drifting over the sides of the plush mattress, those which were covered mostly by a large, pastel pink blanket. A trio of fluffy white pillows rested against the wooden headboard, just asking for you to plop onto the soft material and roll around in all its greatness - but you held yourself back.
The cobwebs, which mostly dangled around the edges of a tall bookcase, didnât really bother you all that much; after all, it wasnât like you werenât used to spotting them in the corners of your home, no matter how often you would clean the crannies of the tiny hut. âItâs nothing Iâm not used to, Hyunjin. Besides, the rest of the room outshines the occasional cobweb - itâs... beautiful.â You echo your thoughts aloud to the quiet boy, fully stepping into the bedroom.
âO-oh, thatâs good,â Hyunjin murmurs in relief, sheepishly wringing his cold hands in front of him while he watched you, a beautiful stranger, ogle over the room he considered to be a mess of filth. It hadnât been occupied in years, unfortunately, having once belonged to - a friend, yes... a friend. âPlease, get some rest. You must be exhausted after walking through the forest.â
Gods, did he suspect that you were someone important, trekking through the haunted forest all alone? âYes, thank... you. I am pretty tired, to be honest.â It wasnât quite a lie, as your feet did ache from the walk that had originally gotten you lost, though you neglected to mention how you were just a peasant who had stupidly strayed from the simple pebble path. If he was truly a prince as everyone said, he might be so bold as to kick you out should he discover your identity... then again, the raven haired boy has only been kind to you.
Hyunjin nods, but upon realizing your back is turned and you canât see his actions, he clears his throat and slowly starts to shut the bedroom door, the creaking catching your attention once more. âI will wake you in the morning, my lady. After breakfast I shall escort you back to the opening of the forest.â He informs you, accepting your little nod as response enough before he finally closes the door, leaving you all by your lonesome in the guest bedroom.
You hurriedly kick off your dirty shoes and throw yourself onto the plush double bed, laughs of disbelief pushing past your lips. You couldnât believe you luck, being (technically) rescued by a prince and offered a room for just a night in his wonderous castle. On top of that, said prince was awfully welcoming and, to an extent, just like any normal boy; not counting the fact that he was extremely handsome.
Ah, no need to dwell on that now, you thought to yourself, tucking your body under the plush pink blanket and white sheets as your head nuzzled into the comfort of one of the stray pillows, sleep poking at your senses, I was just lucky, thatâs all.
Just as your eyelids began to flutter shut, you see something move in the reflection of a standing ornate mirror by the bed. Blaming the strange vision on your exhaustion from the events of the day, you shrug it off and huddle closer in the pile of sheets and blankets to block out the sudden chill that swept over the bedroom, falling into a peaceful slumber.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
The next morning, you wake to find that you arenât in the small, uncomfortable bed that was tucked into the most cramped room of your house. Instead, you come to the quick realization that you are still tucked into the seams of the bed in a guest room that belonged to Hyunjin, the considerate boy who had given you a place of shelter for the night.
You recall him promising to wake you himself, but he is nowhere to be seen. The only trace of him having been inside at all was a stack of clean clothes sat on top of the bedside table, which had previously been empty when you first fell asleep hours ago. Clearly he had meant for you to see the bundle... did he mean for you to wear them?
Sitting up from the bed, you latch onto the clothes and bring them into your lap, carefully inspecting the fine material and sewing that went into the cloth. The top was a cotton, green button-up that closely resembled the shirt Hyunjin had been wearing the night before, adorning the same fancy sort of cuffs and perfect handiwork. The accompanying trousers were made of a foreign, incredibly soft but protective material, dyed a tan color that closely resembled the delicate skin color of your friend, Jisung.
In no time at all youâve slipped out of your rags for clothes, letting them drop to the floor with no care in the world before you tug the cleaner, nicer cloth onto your body, all the while hoping that you werenât in need of a bath; to stink up his own clothes would be pretty rude, you thought.
You choose to head out of the bedroom and into the hallway, not daring to explore the depths of the castle without the owner in your presence. Recalling what twists and turns he had made to lead you to said bedroom the night before, you retrace your footsteps until you come to the two spiral staircases. In the center of the balcony, there laid a pedestal - the very one that let the glass dome you spotted before rest on its top. Now, you could make out the familiar shape of a single rose inside the clear dome, the prickly stem green with life and stuck into a mound of... air?
âBy the gods...â you canât help but snort in wonder, taking a tentative step closer to the encased rose, blinking many a time to make sure you werenât hallucinating. The delicate plant was seemingly floating in midair, the blood red petals still attached to the bud.
Suddenly, a sensation of chills ran up your body, goosebumps trailing your covered arms. You look around the balcony, trying to see if perhaps a window had blown open and let in a cold chill, but you found that they were all shut tightly and covered by the burgundy curtains accented with gold entrails. When you look back to the rose, a single petal had already mysteriously fallen off, going to float in the empty space of the dome.
Shying away from the rose, you shake away the unsettling feeling stirring in your stomach and make your descent down the staircase. A delectable aroma wafts through the bottom of the staircase, tempted your hungry self to follow the scent in search of food; you hadnât eaten since breakfast the day before, leaving you quite desperate for at least a snack.
The fascinating aroma leads you into what you suspect is the kitchen of the castle, stacks of fruits and vegetables tucked inside wooden crates, two stovetops nestled beside one another with lit fires brewing underneath them.
âGood morning,â the boy cooking his concoction greets you warmly, his back muscles moving with any twitch of his arms against the oddly tight gray shirt he donned. His black hair was messy and unkempt, though it only added to his charming, boyish appearance. âI apologize for not waking you earlier, my lady. Iâm afraid that a blizzard blew through last night, covering the only path to the opening of the forest. If we try to trudge through the mounds of snow, we will surely get a bad case of frostbite or even hypothermia.â He explains as he cooks.
So that was why you kept experiencing sudden chills - he had to have a stray window open, you just didn't see it. âI donât wish to die in the midst of a blizzard, so... I suppose Iâm stuck here for a little while longer, then?â You hum quietly, not wanting to sound intruding as you point out the obvious. Hyunjin nods to himself at your observation while you make yourself comfortable at the dining table, admiring the chestnut color and plush seats.
âIâm afraid so - not to be rude, but may I know your name? Calling you my lady out of sheer politeness is beginning to sound somewhat redundant.â He questions you as he finishes cooking, placing the food he had made onto two separate plates before he brought them over to the dining table, setting one of them down in front of you. He sauntered over to the empty seat opposite of your own, munching on a slice of bread.
You look down at your own plate, nearly drooling at the uncommon scent of ham, fresh bread, and jam; commodities you werenât able to enjoy on a daily basis. âNo - youâre fine, Hyunjin. My name is Y/N.â You answer him, grabbing a fork and stabbing the ham so you can bring it up to your lips, munching on the meat with a quiet sigh of content.
He smiles to himself at your enjoyment, having grown accustomed to having practically the same meal every day for his own breakfast. âY/N... such a pretty name,â Hyunjin canât help but mutter, repeating your name like a mantra inside his damning thoughts. For some reason, putting a name to your face only made his heart race faster and faster in his chest, made his words knot together in his throat as he tried to continue the conversation. âH-how did you come into Cupidâs Forest, anyway, Y/N? Most people tend to avoid it because of the spirits, even if it is daytime.â
âErm, well-â you hesitate to tell him the truth, engrossed with the elegant meal and the oddly caring aura that radiated from his curious figure. Would he be upset that a commoner had wandered inside his walls, his safe haven? âI was walking home, but I got distracted and sort of... stumbled into the forest... by accident?â The words you say come out more so as a question, as if you were silently praying for him to avoid asking you anything else.
Luck was not on your side, apparently.
âIs your home really so far from the main hub of the town? Why would you take such a long path in the middle of the night? Isnât it dangerous-?â
âIâm a peasant, Hyunjin⌠I have no other choice.â You finally burst out to put a halt to his questions, your fingers gripping onto the handle of the fork while your eyelids squeeze shut in sheer embarrassment. Gods, you were wearing his clothes - his expensive, brilliant clothes! And here you were, admitting so clearly that you were but a peasant in his castle - youâd blown it.
âOh... well... you must find a different path home, then.â
You cracked open an eye in confusion, peeping to see the boy in front of you still casually chewing on his breakfast. âW-what?â
âI donât want you to accidently wander into the forest again, you might get hurt if Iâm not there at the right time.â He insists with a furious blush, letting his unkept black hair dangle just in front of his eyes to hide how nervous he was. â... And, you can keep my clothes that you're wearing.â
The only thing you can utter out is a hushed, âthank you,â your own cheeks mimicking the beat red color that dusted his cheeks.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
The damned blizzard had lasted three days since then, meaning you had been gone from home just shy of a week, and even now the terrible weather showed little signs of letting up. They were not uncommon in such a cold season, of course, as you could recall experiencing shut-ins due to many a blizzard in your time. However, you could not once think back to an instance where the snowy storm had lasted for such a long period of time - that in itself worried you deeply.
Was your father alright, all alone in the hut you called a home? Would he be overworking himself to distract him from the thought of you being gone for so long?
Did Jisung make sure to shut all his windows as the storm hit? Was the blonde, passionate boy safe and eating well? After all, he couldnât have known that you hadnât made it home those days ago, not with how dangerous the weather conditions were outside.
What of the soldier who had bought one of your dresses? Would himself and his fellow soldiers bare the harsh, dropping temperatures in measly tents and spare scraps from a local inn? What of his pregnant wife and her younger brother - could the boy properly take care of them all alone?
âYouâre thinking again, Y/N,â youâre ripped out of your thoughts by the boy next to you, the sleeves of his knitted, caramel brown sweater pushed all the way up to his elbows as he slaved away at the bottom pane of the giant window he was cleaning. On the third day of your stay in his castle, you finally caved and began to clean his dusty, dirt ridden home, and he had joined you in favor of being a gentleman... and to clean up his home, of course. âWhatâs on your mind?â
You pondered on how to answer Hyunjinâs question. It wasnât invasive, no, but you tended to hesitate on the idea of your friends and family back in town; not that you didnât care or worry for them, you simply didnât care to dwindle on the idea of leaving the castle when the storm finally lifted. Should you elaborate on your worries aloud... perhaps it would bring that reality closer than you would like.
âIâm thinking about my father and friend, wondering if theyâre safe in such a dangerous blizzard.â You admit with a hum, steadying yourself on the step of the ladder as you scrubbed away at the top window pane with a key diligence.
âI... I canât promise that they will be alright, Y/N, but I wouldnât worry too much. Worse has happened, surely a blizzard wonât put them in a vast amount of danger.â
âI think Jisung will be okay, but I worry for my father,â you explain with a sigh, unknowingly gripping onto the damp washcloth tighter and tighter the more you pondered the fate of the only family you had left. âHeâs probably worried sick about me and is overworking himself since thereâs no way he can possibly look for me with this weather. Not to mention w-we didnât have a lot of food left in the pantry before I left that day - oh dear, heâs all alone!â
For some reason, the panic for your dear father only just begins to truly settle in. He wasnât as young and healthy as some of the other men in your town, he would struggle to move the logs into the fireplace - oh, what if he couldnât even start a decent fire? He would surely freeze! What of the food? Knowing him, he would be too busy fretting over your sudden disappearance and working to remember to eat enough to sustain himself-
 âY/N, love... come here.â
You unconsciously listen to the concerned boy stood beside the rickety ladder, reaching over to take his hand and walk yourself down back to the ground. Immediately he wraps his sweaty, toned arms around your waist, effectively pulling you into his warm chest. A wave of warmth floods your senses as he tries to comfort you as best as he possibly can, going as far as to gently press his palm to the back of your head and encourage you to rest into the crook of his neck.
âYou have to relax, love,â Hyunjin says truthfully, slowly walking you over to one of the loveseats in the main living area, just outside of the dining room where youâd been cleaning moments ago. He sits back on the red cushions, carefully adjusting your body so you could fit on his lap; the close proximity made his heart do cartwheels like gymnasts in a circus, but he didnât mind. All he wished for was to help you relax and calm down. âI... Iâll tell you a s-story, if you like. Maybe it can help you calm down.â He offers softly, glancing down and taking your slight nod against his neck as a yes.
âHmm... once upon a time, there was a royal family from a far, far away land, where the sea was as blue as the skies and the beach stretched out from town to town. They were a happy little family of three, ruling over their promised land in content - until a nasty woman who claimed to be a goddess came down from the skies with a message. She said that their only child was too beautiful, too good for this mortal realm - that he didnât deserve to be seen as he was by the people of their kingdom. The woman was jealous of the family, especially since they openly defied her very existence and those of her strange family,â
âSo, she banished the three of them to a lone castle in a distant land, surrounded by vengeful ghosts and terrifying beasts who could tear them limb from limb if they wanted to. In her mind, she assumed that they would drop to their knees and beg her for her blessing, which in a way meant they would surrender to the very being that they had defied for so long. But she was terribly wrong - they stood by their beliefs, their morals, no matter what she did to them...â
He started to trail off, a lump growing in his throat. When you shifted in his hold, though, he quickly cleared his throat and continued.
âFor months they would go into the nearby town and offer refuge to any who needed it, and by the sixth month of their stay at the castle, most of the rooms had been filled with thankful civilians; from nobles to peasants, all were welcome. Then, one night, their son was foolish enough to try and venture out of the castle in the middle of the night. He wandered into the forest all alone, seeking out a spirit - by his logic, he thought that he could help them move on to a better life, but he was wrong,â
âNo, a spirit didnât get ahold of him - a wild wolf did. It nipped at his legs, tearing the muscles from one of them so harshly that he would never be able to walk without a limp. The beast clawed at his face, ripping down a set of scars that wouldnât heal properly, leaving him to look like a mangled mutt. One of the residents at the castle, a friend he called Seungmin, heard his cries all the way from inside his bedroom. He quickly brought out two other residents and somehow managed to rescue the prince, bringing him back home for his parents to see...â
âThey recoiled, immediately swearing that the boy they had brought to them was not their son. They raged, stating vehemently that their son, a prince, was handsome and fit - the very opposite of the mangled boy at their feet. In a state of disbelief, they fled, never to be seen again. The goddess laughed at the princeâs misery at first, but grew furious when his friends insisted that looks didnât matter, that he was still beautiful on the inside and on the outside. S-so... she cursed everyone living with the prince, turning his only friends into inanimate objects and forcing his body to return to its normal state. She said, that whenever he fell in love and kissed the person of his dreams, he would revert back to his ugly form from the attack - sure to scare away the only other person who could ever love him... the end.â
You whine into the crook of his neck, dissatisfied with the ending of his story. âThe prince has to be happy, Hyunjin⌠I think that his love will stay with him, he sounds lovely, after all.â You insist with a light yawn.
The boy chuckles half-heartedly at your words, using his fingers to soothingly rub your back and encourage you to sleep. He found it amusing how you were so far from the truth, yet so close at the same time - you even knew he was a prince, apparently. âThat would be nice, wouldnât it?â Hyunjin mumbles, eyes glazed over in sadness. âBut he isnât as lovely as you might think, love. He drove his own parents away-â
He pauses mid-sentence when he hears a light snore escape your parted lips, looking down once more with a fond sensation crawling into his heart. Your cheek was pressed against his shoulder, a tiny bit of drool pooling at the corner of your mouth, but he didnât dare try to move you away from him.
Not when this was as close as he could possibly get to you without ruining everything.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
You werenât sure how you ended up back in the bed of the guest room, truth be told. The last thing you could fully remember was Hyunjin telling you a story, with you curled up in his lap - oh... and hadn't the story been awfully sad, as well?
Perhaps you could ask him at breakfast. Yes, that is what you would do; had he heard the story from a book, or did he know the prince in the tale himself? It sounded so, so familiar, but you couldnât quite put your finger on it.
With a huff you slide out of bed, running your fingers through your messy hair as you stand and look to the bedside table, expecting to see another fresh bundle of his clothes for you to wear; but nothing was there, nothing at all. Maybe you had woken up before him, for once.
Not wanting to go out and see Hyunjin in dirty, likely stinky clothes, you hop over to the closet by the window, opening it up and searching its contents for a top and trousers. Soon you come across a plain gray sweater and green trousers - that would do.
Slipping the new clothes on, which were a tad bit smaller than Hyunjinâs, you fix your hair as best as you can, taking a quick, nonchalant peek out the window. Your jaw gaped in shock at what you saw, or rather, lack of what you saw. All the snow had melted, leaving remnants of the blizzard by the traces of white on the leaves of the trees on the prickly grass. The blizzard had come and gone - meaning that you could finally go home... away... from the castle, away from Hyunjin.
Why was it so hard to accept? You knew that you would have to go home at some point, but you had come to enjoy being at the castle... being treated as an equal. You - you enjoyed being with Hyunjin.
Feeling less enthusiastic than before, you trudge out of the guest bedroom, heading straight for the staircase. Unknowingly, you look at the rose in its dome, blinking sadly as you realize that only one petal remained. The others had since wilted off the flower, deemed worthy to only float in the space of the small glass cylinder. It seemed as if both you and the rose had succumbed to an eerie sort of sadness.
You finally find Hyunjin in the library, his nimble fingers slowly tracing the black ink of the novel he was currently engrossed in. His midnight black hair had been combed neatly to reveal the true, soft nature of his head of hair, though instead of the usual cuffed shirt or sweater, he now donned a long sleeved white top and black vest, his dark trousers held up with a belt that was decorated with a single sword nestled in the hilt.
âGood morning, Hyunjin,â you greet the boy in a soft manner as to not startle him, smiling bittersweetly at his cute jump of surprise and the noise that escapes his throat. Turning to face you, he opens his mouth to speak, only to fall silent. His sharp gaze runs up and down your body, a hint of... a scowl, of all things, gracing his features.
âMorning, love,â Hyunjin puffed after a moment of utter silence, sweeping his gaze straight back up to meet your own confused one, â... my clothes are outside your door, I didnât want to accidently wake you up so early today. Go change.â
 âI - excuse me?â
He flushes at his harsh tone, quickly shutting the book in the palms of his hands and pushing it into the bookshelf, back in its original spot. âS-sorry... I um, I just - this is your last d-day here... I would like for you to wear my clothes, I guess.â The soft-spoken boy finally admits with a burst of semi-confidence, catching the both of you by surprise.
âI - would... like to wear them, I guess,â you echo him sheepishly, feeling a wave of heat crash into your cheeks, cursing yourself for blushing so easily in front of the boy. He visibly brightens at your words, straightening his posture to appear less nervous.
âGood - I mean, great! W-we should-â heâs harshly interrupted by a pounding sound from the front door of his castle, causing both of you to freeze in surprise; you, more with confusion, him, more with fear. Hyunjin was no fool, he knew of the rumors surrounding his castle - his life. No one dared to approach his castle on their own good will, he had learned that lesson long ago. âStay behind me, Y/N.â The prince ushers you behind his figure in haste, one hand holding your hip to keep you safe while the other rested by the hilt of his sword. He knew you would try to follow him if he pushed you into another room, so he figured keeping you behind him would be better than nothing.
Slowly but surely, he walks towards the front door, leading you out of the library and to the tall entryway. Whoever is on the other side is persistent in their knocking, furiously pounding on the dark wood as if their life depended on it. Hyunjin carefully opened the door, breath hitching in his throat at the sight before him.
A crowd of soldiers and townspeople were gathered at the front of his castle, brandishing either torches, rakes, shovels, or in the worst case, swords.
âY-Y/N! Sweetheart!â A booming voice snaps you out of your wonder - no, it couldnât be, right? Still, you peek around Hyunjinâs arm, nearly crying out in relief when you see your father. âGet away from my little girl, you foul beast!â He calls out to the boy stood frozen in front of you, waving his lit torch around threateningly.
Your eyebrows furrow in confusion. Hyunjin was no beast, he had saved you, protected you - treated you like a real person. âFather, you must be mistaken,â you answer him in bewilderment, causing a ruffle in the crowd, âHyunjin - heâs the only reason Iâm even alive right now. He saved me from the spirits and gave me shelter in the blizzard.â
The crowd of civilians and soldiers brush off your words with no hesitation, a few of them stepping closer to brandish their weapons at the raven haired boy. His grip loosens on your hip, until his hand falls completely off of your body. âNo, heâs right, love. I - I am a monster.â Hyunjin whispers, much to the satisfaction of those throwing insults at him.
âThatâs bullshit, Hyunjin,â you curse at him in hurt as he tries to back away and let you go to your waiting father. You can barely make out the sound of your father insisting for you to come to him where itâs âsafe,â as well as Jisung calling out your name in pure confusion. Yet, you don't move, choosing to stand your ground in front of the wilting boy. âYou are anything but a monster. Why - why would you think anything like that?â
âB-because I am the prince in the story, Y/N!â He shouts in pure, heartbroken fury, lifting his head to meet your concerned gaze, his brown eyes filled to the brim with unshed tears. âThe real me is ugly and unlovable - fuck, I was so ugly that my own parents ran away, and they died because of it! If I hadnât been so fucking stupid, I wouldnât have been attacked! I - I wouldnât be a monster that scared his own mother and father so much that they would run from the only safety they knew, only to get killed by the other beasts in this damned forest!â
You hear the people behind you shifting, as this had been the first time anyone had confirmed any of the boyâs backstory - and it came from the prince himself. The prince...
âThe second I kiss my one true love, they will see what I truly look like! T-they will run away in horror at how fucking disgusting I am - and I can damn well prove it...â Hyunjin breathes heavily, throat sore from his screams of rage, of pain - of loss. Without a second thought, he pushes away any hope he has left in his soul, stepping forward to cup your cheeks in the palms of his warm hands.
The heartbroken boy brings your lips to his own, passionately kissing you with everything he had left - he just knew that the second you opened your eyes, you would run. You had only known him for six full days, there was no possible way you had fallen for him like he had for you - but he knew you were the only person for him. The second you had stepped into his castle, one of the petals from the rose Aphrodite âgiftedâ him had wilted, revealing that his time as the handsome prince he used to be would be over soon.
And this - this was that time.
When Hyunjin pulls away, you slowly open your eyes and see him. Thereâs a set of scars running from his hairline all the way down to his bottom lip, the flesh not fully healed from the devastating attack. You glance down, spotting his left leg, once normal, now lame and slightly wobbly. He has to lean against you to hold himself up, but he clearly expects you to push him to the cold, damp ground and flee back to your fatherâs arms.
You kiss him. You kiss him with all the love you can muster, bringing your fingers to his scarred face and tracing the wounded skin as if you were mapping him out for the first time. In just a measly six days, you had truly fallen for the lonely but sweet prince, loving him for his soft-spoken words and nervous stumbles, his cooking that certainly needed some work, his talent for storytelling - for him.
When you pull away, you smile up at the stunned prince, eyes flickering all across his beautiful face. Scars or no scars, he radiated warmth, and he looked just the same to you.
âH-hey, where did you come from!?â A soldier suddenly calls out in surprise, causing both you and Hyunjin to look towards the entrance of his castle in confusion. His eyes light up when three other boys stumble into the sunlight, all wearing different styles of clothes and donning differently colored hair.
âWoojin, Chan, Seungmin - h-how?â Hyunjin stuttered in utter shock, leaning against your side for support since he couldnât properly walk towards them.
One of them steps closer, glancing between you and his friend with an amused glint to his gaze. âI guess Aphrodite gave up since your girl didnât run away - oh, by the way, youâre wearing my clothes, miss.â The brunette boy hums with a cheeky smirk. You blink, glancing up at a flushed Hyunjin in quiet amusement.
So that was why he wanted you to change back into his clothes.
âI - I suppose youâre right, Seungmin,â he breathes out softly, happily squeezing your hip as he turns to face the mumbling crowd. âS-sir, please - I know Iâm the farthest example of a man you could ever expect, but... I truly love Y/N.â
You turn in his grip to face your father, who narrows his eyes almost suspiciously at the black haired boy holding onto you. And then, he says, â- welcome to the family, my boy!â
 Wait -
Your pudgy father waddles over to you, placing a hand on both you and Hyunjinâs shoulders. âI suppose if anyone can win my daughterâs heart, I must approve. Iâm afraid some of these men in town are only after her because sheâs so damn pretty. Sheâs much more than just a pretty face, you know!â
âTrust me, sir, Iâm well aware,â Hyunjin laughs quietly, fondly looking at you once more.
âSorry about the soldiers and shit,â your friend from town speaks up, having finally pushed through the bustling crowd and approached the little group, âwe all thought you were like, a murderer or something. Rumors and all, not too kind to you.â Jisung apologizes with a sheepish laugh, all the while shaking Hyunjinâs hand.
At the mention of the awful rumors, a majority of the crowd quietly apologizes as well before dispersing; after all, a mere boy was no real threat to them, not when they learned the truth.
You smile up at Hyunjin, stepping up on your tip-toes to reach his mouth, pressing a faint kiss to the corner of his lips, just above part of his scar. He blushes furiously and does the same to you, resting his forehead against yours, his soft breaths fanning against your lips.
 âThank you, love.â

Iâm fine...
(Takes place after episode 19, or a little bit before the end)
They can stay heroes after all. So the three of them waiting in the Hub for th rest of the team to come back to their mission in Ireland. His papĂĄ was checking on Bart, worries about his eye. All the burns already disappeared on his face but he still winks more often than usual.
So his papĂĄ is now with a a lamp staring at his eyes, testing the dilation of his pupille and checking of the little veins in the white part.
âYour eye just took a too bright light from the explosionâ Eduardo Senior explained. âYour eye must be on the dark for a moment. Even with your fast metabolism, you will probably need a day or two to recover.â
As a foreign English speaker, his papĂĄ speaks like a book, without word contraction and taking his time to pronounce each one. He want his son to speak a perfect English, maybe because he was afraid he would be mocked. But Ed did take the youth way of speaking and the Team slang, now a mix of Nightwingâs creations, slangs from a future which is now another timeline and some words from Mexican Spanish with Jaime. Maybe few words of Argentinean Spanish soon and Japanese whenever Tye and Asami stop acting like a couple of ermites.
The Runaways, and Jaime sometimes, still hang out to skateboard in El Paso or in Dakota. While Ed was the second Runaways to hang with the young Team thanks to Virgil, the other two were still a little shy, especially Sam even if her English was almost fluent. She still struggle with vocabulary though. She was way more comfortable with the Runaways and their own slang, a mix of English with some Spanish, Japanese and a few Apache words on it. Ed tried to teach her Spanish too, at least the basic, but she soon became discouraging with pronounciation. After all, the R doesnât exist in Japanese but pronounced like an L, so she was even more struggling with rolling her tongue than Bart. But for the rest of pronounciation, Spanish and Japanese werenât so far from each other, even closer than Spanish is with English. Even the V was pronounced like a B too! So Ed and Sam were both able to pronounce each other languages, but only romanji for Ed. He still has no clue with kanji and the other Japanese alphabets, contrary to Tye. So yeah, they all still working on learning each other languages fluently. He remember when he was teasing Tye and Sam understood boludo as an anime name and Tye bursted of laugh of at least five minutes straight. Mâgann suggested them, two years ago, to âdownloadâ languages in their mind like she did for herself with English, but they werenât so fond of the idea. Anyway Ed prefers results he owned from his efforts. This, it sounded too much like cheating, but he guess it was only a Martian way of life.
He is still distracting his mind so his papĂĄ would not notice how worried he is from Bartâs status. He is almost done with his pirate-like eye patch so Bart would not open his left eye.
âYou should probably not run too fast. You would not appreciate the distance the same way with one eye only. Appreciate is the accurate word, Eduardo?â
âHm? Yes, I suppose it is.â
âDonât worry, SeĂąor Eduardo... uh... senior. I understood the idea. Even if Iâm pretty sure I would forget your recommandation in a minute...â he apologize with a sweet smile.
âI guess you willâ smiles his papĂĄ back.
That makes his heart stops. Would he still smile like that at Bart, at him, if he knew?
âSo I gotta run now. Walk, walk, I need to walk or I will eat a wall, wonât I? Hey Ed, does it still count as a play of words? You know, with walk and wall?â
âI think it can.â
Bart will be fine. He said so so many times today he would even be mad at him if Ed checks a second time. Bart was still the same and that what worries him the most. Even at the funeral Bartâs behavior barely changed, as he was burying his feelings deep behind his smile as usual. So sometimes even Ed canât tell when his novio was feeling the mode.
Bart thanks the scientist and Ed promises him to see him tonight for diner as they both leave the room they used for the checking, the medical bay was still in progress (but Ed isnât sure about his English choice of word here). Any of them has a room where they can hide so they just go in the empty kitchen to find some privacy.
âLo siento, Tito. I almost outed us to your grandfather...â
âIâd be fine. Gramps knows Iâm gay anyway. But it would have be moded for you.â
âThe Flash knows?â
âFor me. Not for us. He knew before we were going out. I wonât tell him until youâre ready for people to know. I mean for our friends and family, not for our hero persona on the big screen.â
âHow... how your grandparents took it?â
âMe being gay? Crash! Gramps even made a joke about he should have know one of his descendants would be queer with his wifeâs name. Iris was the goddess of the rainbow in Greek mythology, you know? And she was the fastest of the gods because she was surfing on them. Running on rainbows should be pretty crash! So he knew she was made for him.â
âYour grandfather is interested in mythology?â
âNah, heâs a scientist like most Allen. Dianaâ I mean Wonder Woman told him when he invited some Leaguers to his wedding. But now he have met Greek gods and New Gods so his perception of reality changed a bit.â
âI guess soâ Ed chuckles. âSo... weâre good?â
âOf course we are! Why would we not?â
âYou could be mad at me for reacting like an overprotective boyfriend or for almost outed us to the rest of the world and in front of Luthor...â
âBut you know I have a fast healing?â
âI know but when I saw you getting blow off by this explosion, Iâ I just forgot...â
âYou were worried not overprotective. And that was pretty cute.â
âDonât call me cute, boludo!â
âPero eres muy lindo, novio mĂo!â He sais while bopping his nose with a grin.
âBart, not here!â
âBut nobody can understand it except Jaime.â
âY mi padre.â
âOops, spoiler...â
âAnd by the way, youâre the cute oneâ Ed affirmes before nudging their noses and kisses him.
ââââââââ
Bartâs injury from the explosion werenât realistic so I made this headcanon. Seriously the season has so many gap I feel the need to fix it xD
Not at home so I wrote on my phone and there are a lot of words I cannot double check so sorry for the mistakes guys...

A Friend Like Me Ink Edition
âLooks like such a beat-up worthless piece of junk.â Maxie said as she inspected the old wooden paint brush.
âHey, I think thereâs still some use out of it, but itâs hard to paint with.â Beatrice said as she dipped it in dark paint and put it on a canvas. But it glowed a bright light, and burned her hand.Â
It shot sparks of all colors, exploding into fireworks.Â
âWHAT THE HELL?!â Zack screamed as he ducked under a table in their small art studio.Â
It spun as a dark smoke emerged from the brush, revealing a brown clothed skeleton floating in mid air. He wore a shirt shirt with a yellow stripe and brown top. He also had a brown artist's glove with mint-green fingers. Though he did have brown overalls, the top part fell over him and wasnât secured. Rainbow paint vials with heart-shaped tops were secured to a black sash.Â
âAaaaahhhhh!â He screamed, his eyes glowing and a sinister grin on his face.Â
âOy! 10,000 years will give you such a crick in the neck.â He said, cracking his neck, however that worked and his mouth didnât move as he spoke. He got up close to the trio, giving them a quick look over as he got excited.Â
âHang on a second.â He said as the three friends were placed onto invisible wall hooks.
âWhoa! Whoa! Does it feel good to be outta there!â He said spinning his head and stretching.
He had a long scarf that trailed into a puff of smoke, it also was a dark brown and transitioned into a pale brown. He then turned the end of the smoke trail into a microphone and held it to his mouth.Â
âIâm telling you, nice to be back, ladies and gentlemen.â He said, waving to a crowd that wasnât there.Â
âHi. Where yâall from? Whatâre your names?â He said, bringing the mic to them and waiting for the stunned trio to speak.Â
âUh⌠Uh, Maxie.â
âZack.â
âBeatrice.â
They were all hopelessly confused at this stranger.Â
âMaxie, Zack, and Beatrice. Hello Maxie, Zack and Beatrice. Nice to have you on the show.â He said, making a billboard with their names and glowing in rainbow colors.Â
âCan we call you Max? Or maybe just Xie?â He said, fiddling with his scarf as he spelled the nicknames in the air with sparkles.Â
âHow about Trixie?â Sounds like âHeya Trixie!ââ He said, making himself look like a traditional high school prep girl as he laughed.Â
âWe must have hit our heads harder than we thought.â Zack said, he was rubbing his head as he looked at the girls, they nodded as well.Â
âDo any of you smoke? Mind if I do?â The skeleton said as he poofed and returned to his normal self.Â
âOh sorry guys. Hope I didnât singe the canvases.â He said, looking at the run down shed he was in as he surveyed the sketches.Â
âYo, Broomy. Havenât seen you in a few millennia.â Ink said as he waved to the brush which came to life and grew to his height, which was four feet.Â
âGive me some bristles. Yeah. Yo, yo.â Ink bumped hips with the brush and high-fived the brush.
âSay, Iâve never had more than one master.â He said, counting them off.
âEither that or Iâm seeing triple.â He said, sprouting two more heads before quickly dissipating them.Â
âHold on one moment, how many rocks do you see?â he said, pointing to the three rocks Maxie brought in for a diorama she needed to make for a school project.Â
âWait a minute. Weâre your masters?â Zack said, even more confused.Â
âThatâs right. They can be taught.â Ink said, snapping his fingers as graduation caps and diplomas appeared in their hands before disappearing in a puff of smoke.Â
âWhat would you wish of me?â Ink asked, gearing up for a few tricks.
âThe ever impressive,â He made large muscles for himself as he flexed.Â
âthe long contained,â Getting smaller as he was in a glass box.
âthe often imitated,â He ventriloquist doll was in his lap as it said the words in a high pitched voice.Â
âbut never duplicated...â Duplicates of Ink said the word duplicated in a weird echo effect.Â
âGuardian of the Brush! Nameâs Ink.â He said, summoning sunglasses that he slid down as he winked.Â
âRight here direct from the brush, right here for your very much needed artistic assistance.â He said, bowing.Â
âThank you.â Ink waved at an imaginary crowd.Â
âWait. Artistic assistance?â Maxie said, and Ink nodded.Â
âAs much as you need, to be exact. Per master so thatâs infinity times three.â Ink said, question marks in his eyes as he contemplated what he had just said.Â
âNo substitutions, exchanges, or refunds.â He said as he had three beaten wooden signs appear in front of the three.Â
âNow we know weâre dreaming.â Zack said, and everyone nodded.Â
âMasters, I donât think you quite realize what youâve got here.â He said, gasping as he held his hands to his face.
âSo why donât you ruminate whilst I illuminate the possibilities.â He sat them down on the floor and began to glow.Â
âWell Avatar had them three seasons. Gravity Falls had a thousand mysteries.â Ink said, duplicating himself three times before they surrounded the tiro, holding brushes dripping with paint and pointing at them.Â
âBut masters youâre in luck 'cause up your sleeves, you got a brand of magic that never fails!â Ink said as he snapped his fingers and the duplicates vanished.Â
âYou got some power in your corner now. Some heavy ammunition in your camp. You got some punch, pizzazz, yahoo and how.â Fireworks and rockets went off inside the shack as it seemed to get bigger, the things in it fading to black. Ink himself was a firework as he exploded and pulled up his living brush.Â
âSee all you gotta do is use that brush!â Ink cried out making the three shake hands with Broomy.Â
âAnd I'll say âMister Creators, sirs, what will your pleasures be?â Ink said, appearing in a puff of smoke as his voice boomed.Â
âLet me take your orders. Jot it down,â Ink was now a french waiter who had them sat down at a table.Â
âYou ain't never had a friend like me!!â Ink cried out, winking at nobody.
âLife is your restaurant. And I'm your maitre d'!â Ink cried out, placing a turkey on the table, but his head became the main part of the chicken before they could eat it.Â
âC'mon whisper what it is you want.â Ink grew an ear that grew bigger.
âYou ain't never had a friend like me!â Ink said, once again making more duplicates as they surrounded the trio.Â
âYes sirs, we pride ourselves on service.â Now the three friends were in a spa and being cared for by the Ink clones.Â
âWhat the hell is going on?!â Zack cried out as he tried to kick one.Â
âYou're the bosses!â Ink said, propping them on large fancy chairs made of gold and velvet.
âThe kings, the gods!â Ink once again said, duplicates fanning them with large palm leaves.Â
âSay what you wish, it's yours, true dish.â Ink said, making more food appear before them.Â
âHow about a little more buttsctoth pie?â And the dish in question flooded the room.Â
âHave some of column A,â They found themselves on top of a large pillar, about to fall off any second.Â
âTry all of column B!â Which they did into a pile of art supplies as they continued to fall.Â
âYou bastard!â Maxie cried out, she hated heights.Â
âI'm in the mood to help you dudes.â Ink said, catching them on a pillow as he opened his mouth.Â
âYou ain't never had a friend like me!â A smaller but more dapper version of himself came out and began to dance.Â
âCan your friends do this?â Ink took off his head and began to juggle it along with more copies of it.
âDo your friends do that?â He threw the heads at them, and miraculously they could also juggle them, before Beatrice screamed and threw them at the headless body. And Inkâd was right where it was supposed to be.Â
âDo your friends pull this out their little hat?â He turned into a hat and popped out as a big pink rabbit.Â
âCan your friends go poof?â The pink rabbit became a dragon which spewed a large stream of flames.Â
âWell, looky here~!â Ink said as the flames took vaguely humanoid shapes and began to dance very suggestively.Â
âCan your friends go, Abracadabra, let 'er rip!â Ink ripped himself in half.
âAnd then make the sucker disappear?â Right after he literally split the flames poofed out.Â
âSo don't cha sit there slack-jawed, buggy-eyed.â Inkâs jaw fell off and he grew organic looking eyes when he said the corresponding phrase.Â
âI'm here to answer your all nighter prayers.â Ink said as he summoned a desk with a drawing tablet and gave himself disheveled clothes and large bags under his eyes.Â
âYou got me bona fide, certified.â Ink was now a certification sheet and wrapped them up in the paper.Â
âYou got a helper for your struggling affairs.â Ink unrolled and the three were released as they tried to get their footing.Â
âI got a powerful urge to help you out.â Ink was still large and used a finger to steady them.Â
âSo what-cha want?â Ink leaned in as if he were trying to hear better.Â
âI really want to know!â He leaned in closer.Â
âYou got a list that's three miles long, no doubt.â Ink pulled a piece of paper from Zackâs ear and used it as a jump rope before he popped it on the ground.Â
âWell, all you gotta do is use like so - and oh!â Sparks flew from the ground and the trio were transported to a new place.Â
âMister Creators, sirs, I have a master, two and three.â Ink counted them off, each turning a different color as he did so. Maxie was blue, Beatrice was yellow, and Zack was red.Â
âI'm on the job, you big heartthrob.â Ink said as he did the equivalent of a kiss on Zackâs cheek, causing Zack to slap Ink.Â
âYou ain't never had a friend, never had a friend. You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend.â Ink said as he summoned a circus and had dancers and dancing animals.Â
âYou ain't never had a friend like me!â Golden buildings and music filled the area as more and more dancers came up and fireworks went off.
âYou ain't never had a friend like me! Hah!â All of it vanished in a flash and Ink was floating on air, with an applause sign above him as he grinned smugly.Â
Broomy clapped enthusiastically, which earned him a slap from Zack.

For the prompt: ya know that elevator scene with Keith and Lance in the early seasons? Yeah that but with pidge and lance
AO3
âHold it!â A small hand shoved its way between the closing elevatordoors and pushed them back open. Pidge walked in wearing a green swimsuit matchingthe color of her Lion. She had a towel slung over her arm.
âWhat are you doing?â Like he couldnât figure that out justby looking at her.
âHunk told me to try to stop thinking for a while. Thought Iâdcheck out the pool, give it a try.â
âHunkâs right. Brain gotta rest.â Pidge grunted and leanedback against the wall, while the doors swished shut and the elevator went up. Shehad on board shorts over a fitted one piece that showed the gentle curves of herbody normally concealed by her baggy clothes. Lance looked away, remindinghimself that 1) tight clothes didnât give him a right to stare and 2) Pidgewould probably smack him if he started treating her differently than he hadbefore. âThough I didnât peg you as a swimmer.â
âWhy?â
âI donât know. You, robots, plus water. Doesnât really mix.Never seen you without a robot.â
ââŚEh, I guess thatâs a fair point. Though with the properinsulation â â
âShhhhh. No nerd talk now. Nowâs the time to relax.â
Pidge scowled at him. âDo you ever understand a word thatcomes out of my mouth?â
âHey! Quit condescending me!â
âI was going to say the same to â â Pidge got cut off by theelevator suddenly jolting to a halt. Something crashed above them and thelights blinked off.
âShit.â
âLanguage.â
âAre you really going to be that guy right now?â
âI got a niece and nephew waiting for me back home, Iâm notletting your sailor mouth corrupt me and then them! We gotta find a way out ofhere.â
âLance, the hatch in the ceiling. We can climb up theelevator shaft. Where are you, give me a boost.â Pidgeâs searching handssmacked Lanceâs chest in the dark. He jumped. The sudden skin contact burned himlike a brand. The hands found his shoulders and between pulling himself togetherand thanking God it was too dark for Pidge to see his flushed face, Lancemanaged to squat down and link his hands together.
âOkay,â he said, while Pidge put her foot in his hands. âOne,two, three!â
He lifted her up. Pidge skillfully punched the emergencyhatch open, stepped, onto his shoulder, and hefted herself through the hole. Everyspot their skin made contact was left tingling. He put that down to the shockof having more contact with her in five minutes than the entirety of theirfriendship.
âCan you pull yourself up?â She called down. He couldnât seeher face with the bright light behind her.
âYeah, yeah, move.â Lance jumped, and heaved himself ontohis stomach into the blinding shaft. He mentally thanked his drill sergeantfrom the Galaxy Garrison for making him do, like, five thousand pull ups a day.
He sat up and looked around, catching Pidge staring at him.She averted her gaze quickly and scanned their surroundings. âCrap. Iâd hopedthereâd be a ladder.â
âWith a super advanced alien race like the Alteans youâdthink theyâdâve thought of that.â Lance stared thoughtfully at the walls. âIâvegot a dumb idea.â
It took so many tries to get climbing that Lance almostcalled it quits. One foot at a time against the smooth metal wall, nothingsupporting him other than the tension of Pidgeâs back pressed up against hisown, they inched upwards for what felt like hours. It didnât help that Pidge kept muttering something about ânormal forceâ behindhim. At one point they slipped about a foot downwards and Lanceâs heart leaptin his throat and choked him.
Panting, he said, âThat. Was too close.â
âNo shit, Sherlock. Iâm getting tired.â Sweat gathered wheretheir elbows were linked and where their shoulder blades pushed together. Itmade him afraid they were going to slip and break apart and fall to theirdeaths for real this time. âDo you see a hatch anywhere?â
âThereâs one! About five meters up.â
Pidge flopped her head back against his (which, by the way, ouch). âUgh, thank god, this is gettingso gross.â
âHey! Iâm not the only one sweating here, miss sweats-a-lot!â
âSooooo creative. Your ever-sharp wit strikes again. Almostleft a bruise this time.â
âSo what? You called me gross!â
âGoddammit Lance, Iâm not calling you gross, Iâm calling the sweatgross! You canât tell me youâre enjoying this.â
Of course he wasnât. His legs and back felt like they wereon fire and the skin-to-skin contact wasnât helping.
Pidge took his silence as an answer. She gasped, âOh my god,you are!â
âShut up, Pidge, letâs just get out of here.â
âWhy Lance, Inever knew â â
âOkay, stop. Youâve got me in a lose-lose trap here. I sayno, then you think I think youâre unattractive; I say yes, you think I wantyou. So for the sake of everything and our friendship can we just get throughthat stupid hatch?â
He felt her take a breath. âYeah. Letâs go.â
They finally made it up, and Lance kicked the little doorin.
âOkay, weâre gonna have to do this carefully,â he toldPidge. âYou shove against the opposite wall as hard as you can and shoot usinto the hatch, and hold on tight.â
âGotcha. But first, just for the record,â she said, elbowinghim awkwardly, âI donât give a shit if you think Iâm attractive, so you canchill out. The whole idea to totally subjective anyway.â
âAll right, all right, I get it, Pidge. Iâm still keeping mymouth shut.â
âWhatever makes you comfortable, Lance.â

Itâs The Avengers (02x01)
Loki x Reader Avengers The Office AU (Slowwwwww Burn)
Season 2 Episode 1 (SEASON Premier): You, Me & V
Warnings: a tiny bit of violence, anger, love blossoming??
Word Count: Phew! Okay. So...things have been happening. But the Avengers are beautiful people bringing joy to our lives so it is quite obvious I do the same. Heh!
A/N: This is a two part premiere. :D
 Season 1 E01, E02, E03, E04, E05, E06, E07, E08, E09
MASTERLIST
Scott's voiceover:
This is a story of a man, who actually wasn't just a man. He was so much more.
Misunderstood, misinterpreted, taken for granted even, he had never known what love and compassion looked like. Until he first laid eyes on his beautiful girl.
Footage of Loki meeting you for the first time in the lounge. No greetings were exchanged as you had hurriedly told him to hold Zuko for you so that you could warm his milk and all he had done was look at you with utter malice but held the little puppy, though at an arm's distance, till you came back.
Her presence changed his entire world. Now, everything existed around her. His entire universe revolved around her. Everything he did, was for her.
Camera cuts to the footage of Loki grabbing your tea mug without permission, eating the last chocolate chip cookie on your plate, watching with measured suspicion as you made him some tea and even gifted him a mug of his own- something which he never used but was always happy to eat or drink whatever you made, from your plate and mugs, of course.
And all of this was going really smoothly until the latent evil sorcerer struck down its wrath upon their relationship.
Another cut of Loki taking out your adoption papers and turning into Tony before showing them to you, making you question your entire existence till that every moment.
All the wonderful strings that once joined them together now had come undone, one by one.
The camera again cuts to your figure, coming out of the library after confronting Loki, with tears in your eyes as you threw a small bouquet of flowers- you'd made for him as a note of thanks for effortlessly turning your idea of the wedding arch into a reality- into the nearest trash can that you passed.
Footage from the facility's camera showing the front view of Jim striking you unconscious, watching you lay out cold on the floor, taking your form in through his mad eyes before dragging you inside Tony's office.
And the magician, hurting as he was, did not know what to do except using everything in his power to redeem himself in her eyes.
The camera shows Loki asking Peter's help with something, who in turn goes to Wanda for assistance and comes back with a list for the God, who ultimately finds something worthy of you but leaves it on his bed, the gift never reaching you.
The footage cuts to Jim running out of Tony's office, pale and filled with fear only to run smack into Loki, who presents himself in front of him, tackling him to the floor before dragging him up by his collar and throwing him off the railing down to the ground because Natasha yelled 'Loki! No killing today!' when he took out his most lethal dagger out of a pocket dimension, ready to impale him without a second thought.
Well, she's gone for now. Leaving the magician with a broken heart and the evil sorcerer with a huge ego. Stupid sorcerer supreme.
Scott: *focuses back on the camera after the anger leaves him* what? What do you mean what am I talking about? I'm talking about the inevitable war going on between me and Strange.
Another footage of Cassie introducing himself to Stephen, who kneels down to properly shake her hand.
"Nice to meet you Cassie," Strange states as he passes her a warm smile.
"You too, Doctor Strange. Also donât be mad at my dad. It may seem like he doesn't like you but he really admires your magic. Keep that in mind next time he asks you for a duel," Cassie responds, making Stephen tilt his head in amusement at the little one.
"I will! You are a really sensible girl, Cassie," Steven exclaimed, "and a wonderful daughter!"
Cassie smiles and the camera catches Scott at a distance behind the two of them, stopping in his tracks as he witnesses his daughter hug Strange before saying, "And you are a wonderful wizard!" Making the Ant-Man's face drop all the bright colours.
*looks back at the camera and frowns* Wait. Who did you think I was talking about?
The deadly silence brings a ringing into the ears in the lounge where Clint, Loki, Scott and Stephen stand while Peter and May sit in silence as the assassin eyes the God of Mischief with a blank yet malignant stare. Scott tries to do the same with Stephen, who is not even paying attention to the people in the room as he stares into the fireplace. Peter and May uncomfortably watch the standoff from where they sit on the sofas.
May: Oh, I'm just staying the night here. Steph-I mean Dr Strange offered me a short portal ride back to my place *smiles as she remembers the conversation* and we were about to leave when Barton came asking for Loki. *scrunches her face in worry* Yeah, stuff's about to go down.
"Umm," Peter's frail voice broke the numbing silence, "guys? I think we should go look for her. It's nearly three in the morning and the forest road from here to the city outskirts is not that safe."
Peter: For her. Not safe for Y/N because she's a normal human being, you know. *shrugs* *camera zooms in on to his blinking eyes*
*exhales in defeat* There was this huge rabbit that came out of nowhere once it almost gave me a heart attack! I swear it was huge! With red eyes!
*whispers wide-eyed* huge!
"The boy's right. I'll ask Wong to locate h-"
"No need," Clint finally spoke, still not ready to break his stare away from Loki, who was still in his suit, missing the jacket, standing without a crease of worry on his face, looking into oblivion with his arms crossed across his chest, "I know where she would've gone."
"I'm coming with you."
Loki's words made all heads spin- save Stephen's, whose eyes just flicked for a moment at the turn the mute discussion had just taken.
Before Clint could unclench his tense jaw and say something to Loki, May got up.
"Of course you'll go help look for her!" She exclaimed, somehow surprised at her own words. "Apologise to her face to face. She deserves that."
Scott finally looked away from the doctor and saw Clint ease up a bit at May's words.
"I-I'm coming too," Peter nearly jumped up, "if Aunt May is okay with it?" His voice trailed off as he looked at her with his signature puppy eyes.
"Yeah. Yeah. Go."
May: Peter is legit the only sane person in the room right now. And if an assassin and a freaking God of Mischief who can kill each other within a blink of an eye are going to travel together, I should really not be sending my nephew with them but Scott promised me he'll take care of him. *nods head in reassurance*
*smile turns into a plastered emotion* Scott is the same person who's having a cold war with Stephen because he heard his daughter compliment the wizard. *worry rushes over her brows with the smile still plastered*
I feel like I should be worried about Peter and Scott?
*stands up and starts calling someone as she moves out of the room*
"Hey! It's me, May. Yeah, I know I may be the last person you want to hear this from but..." is heard as she walks out.
Peter: *standing in the Dorm's corridor* This is the reason I've decided to bring Aunt May to the compound more often. So she can finally see how great these people are. How well they gel together and respect the hell out of each other. *smiles*
Meanwhile, in the background, Clint and Loki are walking in his direction. "We're leaving in five," Clint orders, "anyone not sitting in the car by the fifth minute can portal their ass to the Atlantic."
Peter: *wide, scared eyes watch Clint walk away as Loki rolls his eyes and enters his room* *turns back to the camera and passes a weak smile* That's Mr Barton's way of showing respect. M-mad respect. *nods matter-of-factly*
*all cheeriness disappears* I should probably go sit in the car *walks and out of the Dorm in a hurry*
At the City outskirts near a Bus Stop
A small tavern with an entire line of bikes marked the parking in front of it as rock music was heard outside and typical bikers along with a few emo goths came in and out. One could see the late night travellers at the side of the lit bus stop-cum-gas station looking at the tavern crowd with curiosity, disgust, amusement or just blank stares. But amongst all the soft mayhem, the focus was turned on your figure in blue jeans and a jacket with the hoodie over your head as you talked to someone over the phone.
"How long till you arrive, V?"
You casually kicked the free rocks off the broken road while two distant figures- who turned out to be two biker men in their late thirties- came in your direction as you were hearing whatever the person in the other end of the call was telling you with a hint of frustration.
"Okay, fine. Twenty more minutes and then I'm leaving you here," you snap before ending the call and jumping at the sight of the pair of men standing next to you.
"Hey, kid," one with a bandana around his head over crew cut black hair announced as casually as he could with a toothpick between his teeth, "you travelling alone?"
Your eyes moved between him and his soft blonde partner- a lot paler than the bandana guy with a dark moustache that made him look older than he supposedly was- before crossing your arms across your chest as you exhaled a visible warm breath in the cold night. "Who's asking?"
"That guy's been followin' ya for some time," the soft blonde spoke as he tilted his head towards the camera zoomed in on the conversation, making the camera guy zoom out and duck behind a car.
"What the heck, Javier?!" You shouted from where you stood. "Get your ass here!"
"Seriously man, why are you here?" You asked the guy behind the camera. "Sweety, I can take care of myself. Now I'll be the one worrying about you the entire night till I know you reach back home safely." A moment of silence passed as the camera recorded the shift in your eyes from frustration to mild surprise. You turned to look into the lens before your hand went back to your neck under the hoodie.
"Y-yeah. It's your home. Temporarily."
"Hey, hey Missy," the bikers called out to you, "if yer not boardinâ a bus or whatever why don't you two head inside the tavern and have somethin'. Keep yerselves warm, eh? It ain't safe here at this time in the night."
Just then the camera zoomed in on another figure. A well-built man parking his bike, talking to himself as he got down and walked towards the bar as "No we are not eating any humans today," was what the camera heard from that man opening the tavern doors, pausing, speaking a low hummed 'what' before turning to look straight into the lens that was zooming out at the fastest speed possible and turning towards you.
"Lot of weird peeps roamin' about," the blonde concluded before looking straight into the camera with a haunting look sweeping over his face.
"Okay," you answered, nodding. "Help me with my bag Rodriguez. Donât worry, I'll look out for you till I find you a ride home. And I don't think you've eaten anything since noon," you mentioned before taking Javier's hand and guiding his reluctant body with you, "I'm sure the rest of the lot is sleeping on drunken bellies."
Clint's SUV
The deadly silence inside the car made Peter gulp in the nervousness inside his throat as Clint drove through the lonely forest road with Scott riding shotgun-making sad smileys on the foggy window- and Loki sitting at the back.
Finally mustering all his courage, Peter shifted forward in his seat.
"Can we put on some mus-"
"No," Clint shut him down.
Loki, who was sitting stoically with his arms across his chest, deviated his glare towards Clint, who visibly felt a change in temperature around him, finally speaking. "Don't take your falsely routed frustration out on a kid. He just wants to lighten the mood." His dead yet smooth tone made Clint twitch for a second.
He was about to say something when he was interrupted.
"Alright!" Peter announced, "okay! Stop! Aunt May says you have to think about what you're going to say in anger because what you spew in the heat of the moment, you can never take back."
"Oh, I never intended to tak-"
"Mr Barton, please shut up for a moment, would you?"
Three pairs of eyes shot wide open at the words the spiderling just spoke.
"And Mr Lang can you please stop wallowing in self-pity like a twelve-year-old?"
Scott's hurt face was interrupted too.
"Y/N just found out yesterday she is adopted and today, without as much as a goodbye, she left all of us in the middle of the night! She was waiting for Mr and Mrs Stark to leave so that no one could stop her when she did. She even left Zuko with you, Mr Loki. How hurt was she that she did not inform even one of us? And you all still have the audacity to fight amongst yourselves about your own problems. Yes, I know Mr Barton you are pissed at Loki for what he did but honestly now that's none of your business. And Scott, oh my God, please, stop. Cassie knows how much you admire Mr Stephen and that's the only reason she loves Mr Strange."
Stephen: I know for a fact someone somewhere called me Mr Strange just now. *blank expression* *deep inhale*
âHey,â a familiar voice calls out of the focus of the camera, making it turn to the doorway of the recording room to find May standing at the entrance.
Stephen gets up and walks towards her with the softest âheyâ back before closing the door in the cameraâs face as he turns back towards May. âSorry,â he whispers near Mayâs ear as the camera catches the doctorâs hand rest lightly on the small of Mayâs back, âthe evening took quite an unexpected turn. Would you like me to take you home?â
âOh, itâs okay,â May responds as she unconsciously straightens Stephenâs bowtie, âI would like to stay till Y/N gets back home if thatâs alright with you? Iâm a little worried about her.â
A light smirk, wrinkling the corners of his eyes, builds upon his lips. âOf course,â he says as May puts her defeated head over his chest, making him rub her back to soothe her, catching the camera recording everything, âIâm sure sheâs fine, May. And Iâm pretty sure she is meant to come back.â With his free hand, he motions something in the air and the blinders come up in front of the camera out of nowhere. âItâs the boys Iâm worried about.â
"And Mr Loki. Tone down the sass and apologise to her the moment you see her. Seriously guys, get your shit together," Peter finally concluded.
A silent moment passed in the car in which everyone contemplated Peter's words when Scott's brows suddenly constricted themselves and he looked in the rearview mirror towards the spiderling. "How many of those red cocktails did you have?"
Peter turned towards Scott's reflection, feeling the rest of the eyes waiting for his answer, making him move uncomfortably as he tried to clear his throat.
"Seven..." He finally answered.
Clint and Scott arched their brows in amusement.
"...teen," came a whisper.
Clint and Scott lost their minds as Peter tried to explain them he didn't know that drink was a cocktail till it was too late while Loki tiredly looked at the dashcam- that zoomed in to his face to record the exhaustion on his features and expressionless sarcasm dripping from his eyes.
Loki: This kid is going to kill himself one day. By drowning. While trying to save a fish. From a five feet deep pond. Because he didn't realise there were huge rocks on the water bed before he decided to dive in. Head first.
*sighs*
The Shady Tavern, a few minutes later
"Don't drink that," you declared to the camera before taking the drink away from Javier's visible tan hands and giving it to a passing waitress and offering him yours, "here, take mine. Don't leave your drinks unattended, especially not in a place you're not sure about."
You looked at your watch before turning your head toward the side door. The delirious man who'd entered the tavern earlier gulped down his beer bottle on the bar before turning his head in your direction, keeping the camera on its tail to be discreet in recording his movements.
"I'll just come, okay? You can have the rest of the chips. Don't get any on the jacket. It's Loki's," you stated before getting out of the booth and walking out of the side door. The camera caught the man at the bar looking in your direction, his gaze not even faltering as your figure disappeared from his view and even five guys walked out after you. Just when the sixth guy disappeared outside did he get up from his seat and started walking towards the door, giving one cold hard stare in the camera's direction before disappearing, forcing the camera to get up and almost break into a run to walk out of the door.
As soon as they swung open, a pair of rough, tattooed arms grabbed the camera and Javier, forcing them into a shadowed corner.
"Shh! Shhh!!" The face of the man, who was following you, came into view, his index resting on his lips as he tilted his head cautiously in the direction you'd gone before coming back near the screen.
"My name's Eddie Brock," he declared in a low husky tone, "Iâm a reporter. Relax, I'm not going to hurt you.â
Eddie Brock raised his hands in front of the camera, signalling he meant no harm.
An exchange between him and Javier went off camera, to which Eddie nodded and proceeded to communicate in ASL with the young man behind the camera.
âYes. Those two men you met outside are undercover cops. I've been investigating a gang of child molesters, repeated abusers and pornographers. The biker gang that owns this tavern is helping me uncover the members. Your friend was targeted the moment you two made yourself known here in front of them. They are more interested in getting her because she is younger of the two of you.â
Eddie's expressions change into a confused surprise as he looks at Javier, reading his statement.
âSheâs not? Oh. Okay. Good. Now listen to me. All the six guys who followed your friend out of the tavern are the suspected targets and you are in no way to go near them. No, yes, she'll be fine. I'm going to make sure she's safe while you stay here. Okay? Do not move from here till I tell you to move." Eddieâs voice came as the camera zoomed in to your figure on your toes looking for something in the far off distance in the direction of the gas station while the five men casually surrounded you from a considerable distance as a sky blue van came teetering and stopped right in front of you.
âHey. Hey! Did you hear what I just said?â the camera came back to Eddie as he waved his hands in front of Javier before signing what he just said.
âGood. Now the few bikers in there are calling for backup. Let's just keep everything under control till they arrive. No, he's a good guy.â
Just as he uttered the last sentence a string of black goo started to build up on his right shoulder, till it moulded itself into a Muppet-like creature with two white eyes, fangs for teeth and a long pink tongue, bending in the direction of the camera and tilting its head with genuine curiosity.
"Eddiiieeeee," a hoarse and heavy voice erupted from the muppet, causing the camera to jerk a bit backwards, "Letâs go eat bad guys. Iâm hungryyyy."
"Stay. Here," Eddie asserted through his hands, before turning in your direction and disappearing in the night.
The camera zoomed back to your figure that stepped away from the van when the clean-shaved driver gave you his most controlled, automatically creepy, smile. âHey, sugar! Want to go for a ride?â
The change in your bodyâs posture was noted as you squared your shoulders and shifted away from the vehicle only to have your movement blocked by another man, who moved towards you from behind while whispering, âCome on baby girl, get in the van.â
The camera moved ahead, keeping itself in the shadows as it saw the men come closer to you, one sliding open the vanâs door behind you, one placing himself inside the vehicle while two others covered your sides to give you no space to run away. The last man stood at a distance, almost missed by the camera had it not caught his lit cigar in the darkness right at the edge of the streetlight.
âGet away from me,â you announced with a blank expression as you tried to shuffle yourself away from the side when two of those men nearest to you grabbed you.
âHey!â you shouted as they tried to push you back into the van, making the camera distort the recording as it turned wildly to look for the man with the weird muppet. With no sign of him, Javier got out of his hiding spot, his audible breathing faltering as he broke into a run towards your figure being pulled into the vehicle with a hand covering your cries for help- your eyes reflecting the horror in them as you tried to fight off the hands coming for you- before it disappeared behind the men that were pushing you inside.
(Yup. Thatâs...yup)
